Thought we would go out for dinner at least (we are the most boring New Year's Eve couple in the world!) First had to drive daughter to her festivities (unexpectedly) so, everything was a little later. I had made last minute reservations at a new restaurant literally down the street (not quite walking distance but close) This place has had excellent reviews. Made the reservation, found out it was a three course prix fixe menu - great! away we went. Get there and the place is pretty much full with er um a slightly more vintage crowd - dressed to the nines (we weren't) Well. long story short, someone had rented the restaurant for an event (that others bought tickets to) and the restaurant owner had sold the last few tables to people like us. It was terrible!!!! The food choice were soup/ salad then prime rib/ salmon/ chicken, then cheesecake for dessert. The soup (bacon/cheddar) was burnt - and lukewarm. The prime rib potatoes were awful, the veg cold and the actual meat was so overcooked as to be rubbery. However, I tried it, and 45 minutes later when SWMBO had not even been served, it was time to chat with the owner about a refund - which we received.
That said, at the table next to us was a younger couple who had likewise called in late - he was so frustrated it is difficult to describe, not merely talking to the owner about his girlfriend's lack of food but my wife's as well - he got his refund as well, and bought all of us a round of drinks in celebration. - we then got to meet/ have a chat with a lovely couple - laughed ourselves silly and the craziness of it all, went home and watched TV for the rest of the night - Oh, and after well over an hour my wife's salmon arrived - and was warm - go figure.
All in all, the night that will pass into infamy as a story worth telling and a further reminder that we need to order pizza, put n PJ's, watch a countdown and go to bed.
Happy 2015 all - and happy motoring!
