St Ignace , Michigan car show.

I went to the 2008 car show and seen a couple of brit cars, but they were few and far between. A MGB with a V8 in it was a thrill to hear drive by. Anyways I was thinking about taking my 79 midget up there this year. I was wondering if anyone else was thinking about bringing theirs? Would be nice to see and chat with other british car owners. These little cars dont get the respect from judges but they are a hit with kids and people who previuosly owned one.

I would LOVE to hit that show. One of my goals next year is drive the Midget over the bridge (taken from Minivan two months ago) , just because. I'd love to cruise around the Leelanau peninsula too; Glen Arbor, NorthPort, Traverse City, Harbor Springs. Every year but this past I've gone up with buddies, for 20+ years on motorcycles, then I got car fever and ditched the bike for an Opel GT, still went (most of those pics taken on that trip) but in the "cage". Buddies on bikes, Opel got crunched , got the Midget, but trip died this past year, about 23 years and 21 trips. Love to go up again though. When is it? I'll go google it.

It is always the last weekend in June, not nearly as big & fun as it was 10+ years ago, but still a very good show.

I was going to drive my Midget there last year to cruise around on friday/friday night & see the parade but I blew my head gasket that morning on the way to work :-(

Your right, LBC's are very few & far between at that show - I want to try again this year (only about an hour drive south for me) - so count me in, it would be great to meet up with a few from this site.

I am really hoping to have mine up there this year. My mother-in-law as a condo in town, so I'll be up there either way - just hoping the Sprite can make it as well. I am fairly confident that I'll be able to tow mine up. Just be gentle, at this point she's a driver, most certainly not a looker!!!

I really don't know if my calendar is open but I'll work to keep it that. I'll only go if I feel the Midget is roadworthy enough (should be, provided all my "fix ups" this winter don't turn into breakages) Half the point of going for me is the trip, destination; car show with more Spridget guys is the prize but the trip is reason. I'd love to scrounge up a couple west michigan guys to go as a group. I'll have to check with the clubs around here, any one a member of the Old Speckled Hens of west Michigan?

Great! I am happy that other people are wanting to bring their cars too. I'm about 2 1/2 hours south of the bridge (Oscoda, Mi).As the date gets closer maybe we can figure out how many and where to meet at. I've got to pull the engine and work on the clutch before then but I'm confident it will be ready. My 79 midget is a driver not show , but ain't that what these cars are all about....driving.

Update - friend of mine is a huge fan of St.Ignace show & has been harping on me for 2 years to go for the weekend & put my car in the show...
She finally wore me down this week & I caved for a hotel right downtown (Colonial House ? big ol' yellow hotel where corvette club used to stay) -
Anyways barring any LBC surprises (such as a blown head gasket the day of like last year...)there will be at least one Spidget joining the thursday cruise night & saturday show.
Hope some of this forums gang will join me in the show for support  or at least meet up to say hi, my car is far from a concourse car but a respectable driver - Ha! my 1275cc/1200lb wonder will show those muscle cars how it's done

I'm looking into booking something now.....

We were going to stay at that hotel but they said no kids so we booked at the days inn. I plan on doing the cruise and the car show too so I hope to see you there. I have a red 79 midget and hopefully more LBCs will show!
Jim

No kids? Jerks.
I'll probably be taking my almost 16 year old daughter, maybe she can get some seat time in the MG on the drive up. We like the Super 8 up there but it's west of 75 and therefore not near downtown, still it's tradition for us to stay there. We went up very late fall and were the only people in the whole place, very off-season.

I'll be staying just north of downtown, across from the airport. My motherin-law's condo is in those bluish-grey units.

Hopefully I'll have the Spridget up there. I am really thinking that it could actually happen this year!

Perfect !

Okay, sounds like there will be at least one more in the show & a couple other possible's - excellent!

I think people will enjoy seeing a few LBC's in this show, there is at least 1000 cars (and in it's hey day 2500) - hot rods, customs, muscle cars - totally open show, a little dash of LBC's should be a nice addition

I know I'm looking forward to seeing a few, where I live I have only seen a couple Spridgets driving down the road & one parked at the mall so the chance to see some up close will be great, then I can figure out all the things wrong with mine

I've seen 1 or two Midgets up there most years, and there's an Austin Mini that's been up there religiously for the past 5+.

My intent is to do the parade and cruise night. Won't be entering the show; that's a few years off still.

I've never been so don't know what to expect. Doubt I can be up all three days so which is the best day or two to be there?

I think the first night is only a cruise from the casino thru town and back. The second night the cars start showing up in town and there is a parade/cruise thru the town. Then the last day is the car show itself.
I go up and stay the night (friday) and head home saturday after I visit the car show. I've never been up there on thursday so if I made something that happens sound like nothing ,chime in and tell me I'm wrong.
Jim

my post was lost in yesterday's forum restoration...

You're correct Jim -

25th is the cruise night
26th is the parade. Starts at the airport north of town, and then goes south to Glenn's
27th is the show.

26th will have cruising as well after the parade.

22 days away, getting close - do some of you have your Spridgets ready or on schedule to be ready for St.Ignace ?
I just replaced the u-joints in mine last weekend, now the awfull howl/clink/squeak/vibration is gone (front U-joint was demo'd), she's already for the long 1 hour drive to St.Ignace  ha ha, thankgoodness for US 23, Midge doesn't like the 70+ mph I-75 speeds...
