SSsnake's Getting His 'Eyes'

I did not like the looks of it at first, but as this tread lengthens, it has kinda grown on me. I didn't like it on my Impalla LTZ at first either, but it does add somthing to the look from the side that I like. Well, nothing is undoable!

Maybe that wing is just wrong, and it should be built into the rear behind the trunk???

Actually I like it better without the rear wing.

Yeah, except the wing sorta balances out the hump on the hood. In profile, it doesn't look as lopsided with both, as with one.

So would you solve Quasimodo's problems with another hump on the other side....? (I already voted against the rear spoiler)

Kinda - where'd you find that one?

Couldn't get back to this sooner. Been dealing with some health issues.

As far as my MGC GT project, I appreciate your comment about the rarity of the C and can respect it as such. However, I also have always wanted to have a better C and perhaps demonstrate the potential of the model. And almost everything will be bolt-on and reversable. Essentially it will be a factory update or upgrade so I don't think most people would be concerned.

I tend to agree with most of the comments others have had here as well.
Thought that the rear spoiler might look good if it had been wide enough to reach to the top of the wings over the tail lights (even if it didn't touch?)
Think maybe the rear spoiler might look better if it reached back a bit more to balance the length of the car. Considering the mass of the hood scoop, headlights, side vents, etc. And when the tail lights are installed the spoiler might look even shorter.

C Ya,
Mark

Its nice but too smooth for my tastes - too pretty...I'm looking at something akin to the chin spoiler on a '69 Camaro

Re: .....&: SSsnake's Getting His 'Tail'

Tony, I know you are set on incorporating a rear deck spoiler on this car even though many of us disagree that it will do anything positive for the appearance (it is your car, after all).

IMO, it is difficult to integrate such a thing into the rear styling of the MGB without it looking like a riceboy add-on.

May I suggest that you look at this modified Midget on ebay?

MIDGET

By adding some ends mounted on the fenders themselves, they did a better job than I would have thought possible, on a body profile very similar to the MGB. What do you think? (I know - it would be more work...)

Interesting how they folded it into the fenders themselves...a bit large for the little car trhough, don't'cha think?

That is what I was trying to describe when I wrote this:

"Tony, I think that rear spoiler can work, if the leading edge of the end caps match the angle profile of the rear edge of the hood scoop and the rear edges of the end caps match the angle profile of the rear fenders/tail lamps. Further, if the end caps were attached to the quarter panels and the center section of the spoiler lifted with the trunk lid - as in the 70's GSX - that might be really sharp. A little hard to visualize, wish I could photo shop your pics!"

Re: .....&: SSsnake's Getting His 'Tail'

I'll ask my fiberglass man how hard that would be to do - it is rather extreme...we've already filled the tops of the rear quarters with welds to smooth them over (photo was taken before we finished the rear wheelwell flares.:

Thats beautiful.
The photo below shows the effect I'm going for...on the yellow Camaro - that's the chin spoiler we're building for SSsnake....a little more brutish than the tiny one on the red valance:

For the Midget I'd tend to agree, but given that you want to do this on the MGB, I think it would significantly improve the final look. It wouldn't look quite so 'tacked on'.

I think it might be worth the extra work to make some pedestals you could attach to the fender tops. They don't need to be very thick, as they wouldn't be supporting anything.

Think of things like the NSX.

For those that didn't follow the first link, here is the Midget - the spoiler sits on the boot lid but blends into the fenders:

That's being nice!

Tony....any updates for us?

Re: .....&: SSsnake's Getting His 'Eyes'

Not yet - they've been shaping the front grille area - fiberglassing where they cut the hood, etc.....little things that don't show up in photographs until they're finished.

Took a few photos today. They're working the front edge of the bonnet, reshaping the edges of the grille opening for the egg-crate grille we're building, and we've drilled the rivets out of the brake cooling ducts in the front air dam. Next we'll fill the rivet holes so the ducts look like they're part of the air dam, add the chin spoiler to the front of the air dam, and finish the reshaping of the grille opening.

I stuck a paint stirring stick under the hood for the 2nd photo so you can see how it opens.

And the 3rd photo is a close up of one corner of the grille opening. If you look closely at the bottom corner, you'll see how we're rounding off the square edge and how whe're molding the ducts in the air dam.
