I'm putting a 1500 in a 74 spit that had a 1300 in it from the DPO. The two trannies seem to be the same.... Are they? or will I have to swap Transmissions as well?
 
All should be the same if the first motion shafts are fine spline. If one is fine and the other coarse then you have a small problem. If the crankshaft bolts in the 1300 are 3/8 SAE then you have more of a problem.

They should be the same. A quick "eyeball" of the input shafts and output flanges would confirm. Both should be the same size: 10 splines on the input shafts, and make sure the output flanges are the same "PCD". Checking gearbox serial numbers can also help: both should likely be prefixed with "FH" letters.
 
The 1300 and 1500 are one and the same block, be sure NOT to lose the 1300 crank it is valuable to the racers, as is the head.

If the input shafts have different spines, you can still use either transmission with the correct clutch and flywheel. I converted my Mk I Spitfire to a 1500 OD transmission.
