Today I am taking my engine (in pieces) to the machine shop. While collecting information regarding 1500 engine rebuilding I found the article linked to below. The author is commenting that boring the 1500 out any more than +20 is questionable if you don't deck the block to remove the head gasket fire ring spotfaces... and use the earlier flat 1300 gasket set. Can I get comments from any of you who have faced this? I anticipate that the shop is going to tell me they need to go to +60 from its current +30. Should I anticipate having to deck the block flat and remove the spotfaces?

Get with Hap, this has been covered here many times before but it has been a while.

Search for "ultimate" or "killer" 1500 build. It should be in the spridget section.

Thanks. I'll send Hap a PM. Feedback from a 1500 racer on this board was that he never had a problem with the head gaskets even after boring and decking.
