Speedo angle drive

'69 GT. Replacing the speedo angle drive (on gearbox), and am a bit confused by the Moss/VB exploded views. Moss cautions to install a washer "beteen the angle drive and gearbox to prevent excessive end pressure on the pinion gear". Makes sense, but VB says "be sure to install a copper washer between the cable and angle drive. Neither mentions both, and the shop manual is silent on the subject. Since I know these are prone to failure, I thought someone might be able to clear this up for me. Where do I need to install washers?
Thanks

I've used "O" rings at the transmission end, never concerned with the cable side. It couldn't hurt to put a thin washer in there but I don't recall it being "necessary".

Considering the cost of those angle drive gizmos, when the one on my (non OD) MGB self destructed I left it off and went with a slighty longer cable. Never a problem. Bob

If you don't use the angle drives, be carefull not to kink the cable....be sure it makes rounded, smooth curves.
