I made up a tray that just fits inside the wheel, to store stuff in and keep it contained while I place the spar, right side up over it. The tray has a hole in the center ao the hold down bolt will fit through. Works great, although installing the spare upside down would be a bit easier. Doing this and putting a battery box in the unused battery space (since converting to a single 12 volt battery) provides all the room I need for tools and spares (and a set of chains in the winter months) we can then get everything else we need in the trunk and behind the seats for an annual, three week trip to California to visit our aging mothers. We even take a lap top computer, scanner, CD burner and printer with us so my wife and do any genealogy research she wants to do while we are there.
Cheers,
