Wedge "Southern Skies" TR7?

I can't remember which forums I've posted this request in, so please excuse me if this is a repeat. When the first TR7s came out I lived in North Carolina, and it wasn't long before the Leyland regional manager got permission to create a special TR7 edition for the six southeast states in his empire. I saw a lot of them back then, with 5-speeds and a sliding glass roof and special striping/badging. There are a few photos of one in a junkyard in Winston Salem NC here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/stormbear/sets/72157594382743019/

There's a contemporary article showing the trim and the sunroof along with words to describe the cars here: https://www.templeoftriumph.org/tsoa/TSOAMayJun76.pdf

But apart from these, and a mention in Bill Piggott's book, I can't find a single picture. My own 76 TR7 (the one I bought back then) is about to undergo a long-overdue restoration and I was seriously thinking about recreating the Southern Skies edition but I don't have a high-enough resolution photo of the badge, although I've made a "close enough" version from the Stormbear photo. Does anyone have a photo or any other information??? It would be much appreciated! And again, apologies if this is a repeat request -- I know it's annoying to read the same things over and over.

That looks like the same sunroof set up that MY TR8 has. The Colorado Sun has not been nice to the rubber and plastic on it.

I always thought it was a 'dealer installed' option here in Colorado (the car was first sold here in Colorado and has been in Colorado ever since).

With the 'Southern Skies' info though... maybe it was installed in the car in Leonia, NJ before it was transported to Colorado.

There is a nice picture and write up on the Southern Skies TR7 in the Michael Cook book "Triumph Cars in America.

The sunroof looks like the one shown in Swift6's picture. It also had a side stripe along the accent crease of the car, with a Southern Skies written into it towards the back.

Also som special "Southern Skies" son/moon decals. I don't have a flatbed scanner to get the pic, maybe somebody does (if it doesn't violate any copyright) pg. 161 of the book.

Re: "Southern Skies" TR7?

Hi Stormy

i was lucky or unlucky enough to find a TR7 with the skytrends sliding roof in it. It's a 76 originally white with black interior and AC. I verified that it came into Detroit. Where it went after that is anyone's guess?? It could be a southern skies car, but I can't prove it. Anyway, I'm trying to find that junk yard in hopes of buying the sliding glass piece. Mine is fine but the locking mech at the back is broken. As you can see I have some work to do

Wow, you are more ambitious than me. With that kind of rust, I'd have that thing parted out and at the scrapers inside of a week. I parted 2 TR8s out in the last year that weren't that bad. Here's a picture of a clean TR7 coupe I picked up a couple of months ago. Plan is to use it to reshell a TR8 coupe race car I wrecked a few years ago.

Re: "Southern Skies" TR7?

Yeah I was thinking of parting it but when I saw my sons eyes I couldn't. This will be a father/son project. It's gonna need a little bit of everything so I couldn't think of a better project. Plus he thinks its cool...especially the roof.

Cheers
