Sound familiar?

As an aside, I ended up sliding the top chest of the Craftsman forward and fabricated a tray w/shelving behind for storage.

Top drawer - 1/2" drive socket set - American & Whitworth; 3/8" drive set, American & Metric; 1/4" set - American & Metric.
Second drawer - Screwdrivers, pliers, locking pliers.
Third drawer - everything else - hammers, chisels, files, scissors, clamps, torque wrench.
Underneath - wire wheel wrench, wheel puller, grease gun. Also have separate toolboxes with micrometers, tire gauges, tap and die sets, etc, etc. Lifetime of tools, many no longer used.

OK if you put it that way

hinged top, O rings/ polish/ rulers/ thread sealer etc.
1st drawer - sockets - all socket wrenches plus 1/4 inch and 3/8 drive sockets
2nd drawer - metric wrenches and sockets
3rd drawer - imperial wrenches and long sockets
4th drawer - big imperial wrenches and allen wrenches
5th drawer - pliers
6th drawer - screwdrivers and utility knives
7th drawer - drill bits and micrometers and various measuring things
8th drawer - files and hammers
9th drawer - torque wrench/ big breaker bar/ hacksaw and everything else

Those socket sets complete with a few deepwells and u-joints, have saved me thousands of dollars in repair costs over the last 60 years or so. Screwdrivers? Not so much.

Wrong! - EVERYONE knows that screwdrivers go in the 1st drawer!

You are absolutely right! except the toolbox is actually a smaller 4 drawer box on a larger base - the smaller box is only wrenches and sockets.

The base had the screwdrivers in the top drawer but, it is the thinnest drawer and I had more screwdrivers than pliers - so it made sense to switch, but you are still correct.

great to connect today!

Got the best present for my birthday last year. 20 different 10mm sockets. They have there own spot in one drawer. Funny how even if I still know the size of the socket I need, I'll still grab a 10mm, just to be safe.

Saw this and thought of you!

Keep mine all on "rails". SAE in the front, metrics at the rear. From drawer to cart or portable box to the job, an empty place on the rail means I need to find the missing tool. this has stood me in good stead for fifty years.

I have to stand mine up. Doubles of everything. SAE to the left, Metric on the right. As for wrenches, 2 drawers each of metric and SAE. Leave drawer partially open to know what is out. All comouter diagnostics in bottom drawer and the old analyzer on the bench. Body box for auto body tools and a 7' metal bench with drill press, vise and grinder.

Grinder, drill pres, band saw and vise are semi-mobile, stand-alone. The rest of the garage is absolute chaos. As my British pal says: "Not enuff room in there to swing a dead cat!"

But at least my roll-cabs are organized!

I have two work tables a roiling welding table and roiling tool box in a three car over size garage with two cars and I have to set up a folding table when any project comes up. I guess it is true; If you build it, it will come stuff that is. Madflyer

That's WAY too organized! I'd like to see what the rest of your garage looks like.
Oh wait.....I already have.
