I gotta defend myself... Our meetings are on the first Thursday of the month and I always remember on the first Friday... Or is it the first Tuesday?? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wall.gif
 
I'd have a lot of kicks in the butt too. I belong to one club that I've never attended a meeting for. The reason is that they are on a weekday evening and it would take me 2-3 hours to get there after work, at which point the meeting would be long since over. I do make nearly all the meetings in another club, but I have to because I'm its president.

I'll occassionally drive an LBC to our local club meeting...most times not as its a 3/4 hour interstate drive unless I want to take a couple of hours to do the back roads....& then back roads home after dark can be interesting in an MG!
 
just add on some Lucas Ralley driving lights /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

The only problem I personally have with driving an MG at night is I sit eye level with most SUV headlights. yeah... that's fun... heh
 
Gentlemen,

The only LBC that I have that I can drive is my ol' 1966 B.. rust and all... after about ten minutes of driving my oil pressure hovers around 5 psi.... REALLY need to do a rebuild but the 'A' restoration is the priority right now...

Ergo... I rarely drive the B and the meetings are 45 Freeway minutes away from home... needless to say, the headlights working are the least of my worries.. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

Nothing except its an 8:30 to 10:30 or so drive home by those back roads.....or get out on the interstate & play bumper cars with the SUV's (yep, headlights right in my eyes)...& they don't like you doing only 60 or so on the interstate around here...they're all doing 85!
 
It is a little unnerving to look to your left or right and realize that you are eye-level with the BOTTOM of the wheel hub on the semi next to you... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/sick.gif

Now Tony, your MG will do well over 85! Top speed is over 100. I'd still take the back roads anyway. It's far more fun, day or night. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

A while back I went to a car show in my MGB GT. Someone approached me and said "You passed us on the freeway coming here. It's pretty rare you see an MGB in the fast lane!" That comment struck me as odd. A bone stock early MGB can cruise at 90MPH without much effort, so I've always failed to understand why people make comments like that one so often. My daily commute is typically around 80 MPH when I'm not in traffic.

I do hate the SUV / large truck headlight issue. Even with the mirror tilted down, I hate sitting at an intersection with two big spotlights ten feet behind my head. I wish there were an "auto-aim" feature on the rear view mirror to reflect the light into the other driver's face. Then maybe they would dim their lights out of courtesy. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif

Sure they will - & all my MG's have OD to help them along....however, you don't have Jerri sitting next to me on the interstate! Backroads are a bit more relaxing - if you get my drift...

Dash, interior, side windows, inner doors, bumpers, turn signals, wipers...that's a beginning.

None of that is required to drive on the street except for lighting, and possibly wipers. You should set it up to be street legal so you can enjoy it more often! My GTS is basically a track car set up to be street legal. If it were track-only, I would rarely get to drive it. Just my 2.34 cents USD.
