Son in Hospital!

Paul - congratulations on the continuing good news.

Say, when things settle down, could you give us more info on how this all happened? You said earlier he caught this illness on an airline flight. Nearly all of us take airlines flights!

Thanks.
Tom

Well Tom, I'm much more relaxed knowing he's recovering from this and doing well. No one is sure exactly where he picked up this bug, but the flight to Dayton from Tulsa was the only time he was in close company with a lot of people. He had been working so many hours, to the point that he was exhausted prior to the flight, which from Dayton connected to another flight to Virginia to inspect an aircraft for a customer. He was run down and his immune system wasn't up to where it should have been. In other words, he was a prime target for the bug to take hold unchecked.
Most commercial aircraft today have a recirculating system rather than using fresh air from out side the aircraft like they used to, so your breathing filtered cabin air. This was done to conserve fuel, as I think cabin air is recirculated using electrical power, not tapping off an engine compressor. This isn't a positive where he caught the bug, but the possibility is high on the list, as know one knows, (or want's to say), if the filtering system is capable of cleaning the air as well as fresh outside air. Could he have caught it elsewhere, it would be fool hearty to say no. We do know, according to his doctors, that he caught MRSA first and the pneumonia followed. If I learn anything more, I'll pass it along. PJ

Great news Paul. Thanks for the update.

Outstanding news Paul! He's headed in the right direction. Glad he pulled the "release" on the ventilator to disconnect!!!

Great news Paul. Not that I am in the category that your son was/is in but you make a good point in the air circulation on commercial flights. I got back on Thursday from a flight Ft. Myers/Atlanta/Albuquerque and on Sunday I was flat on my back with something that has put me sown for these several days. I think today is the turning point for getting better. Husband wanted me to get to the doctor but I was too sick and I'm stubborn. He has been my rock and I love him dearly but if he brings me any more Gatoraid I think I will scream.

Again great news and more prayers.

Husband wanted me to get to the doctor but I was too sick and I'm stubborn.

My sons wife wanted him to go to the doctors the first day he came down with the sniffles, 4 days later he was on the ventilator fighting for his life! Why, because he was stubborn also! There are illnesses out there today that we never heard of 15/20 years ago and some of them are real scary. They have found MRSA in fresh food, on can tops in the stores and places we never gave a thought to. It has no age limits! Use caution and please don't just assume it's a common cold. Make sure! JMHO.
Last but not least, Thank you all, for your kind wishes! PJ

Not wanting to hijack thread but, SWMBO just came back from a conference, while there they announced the death of a well loved colleague. She had died (early 40's) because she wouldn't go see doctor AND had a work commitment that she just couldn't miss.

Paul, it's good to hear your son is recovering so well. I know that it easily could have gone the other way.

My son was sent to rehab yesterday and will be there for a couple weeks before being released to go home! He still has to go back for therapy as an out patient. Damage to his nervous system was extensive, but the doctors say he will recover fully, which will take months of recuperation. I've said it many times before, thank you all for all your kind thoughts and prayers!

A thought on life in general was brought to mind when Mickey posted Tonys "Waking a sleeping MG" for a fellow in another post. It reminded me of Tony and one of his desires. Tonys Waking a sleeping MG first couple of paragraphs reminded me of how we should love and enjoy today and be thankful for tomorrow, when it comes. Sorry, after my sons closeness to death, I kinda wander sometimes here lately. PJ

Quote from Tony;
Because, as Jerri & I look forward to my retirement and the "15,000 Mile Circle" trip through the western part of the US, Canada, and Alaska that we've planned to celebrate that event, I want Vermillian Red to be part of it. She'll be the dinghy towed behind our RV on a purpose-built trailer. However, she's an old girl who will need some serious prepping to make the trip and perform as she did every day of her life. I've got to overcome 10 years of sleep to ensure Jerri & I enjoy her like we did "back in the day". Unquote.

We never know, do we.

If there's one thing I knew about Tony and Jerri, it's that they enjoyed life! We had some very good times with them, and Tony was very proactive in living his dream. Jerri is living near her daughter and spending lots of time with grandson, Will.

Good to hear about your son, Paul!

Paul, best dreams to all. Your son's progress has probably much to do with your support.

Paul- Will he fly again professionally?

Good question Don, were not sure yet. Our nervous system is extremely delicate, the most complex electrical system ever designed. One damaged circuit can cause odd reactions on the receiving end. The doctors, he has some of the finest around, say his system will heal in time, but no ones committing themselves as to how long it'll take. He looks good, feels good and working hard in rehab so he can go home. Will he fly again? I hope so, aside from his family, it's what he loves to do most and he's good at it. PJ
