So what are your 2010 Triumph-related resolutions?

What Tinkerman said,
get my Spit's seat restuffed and recovered, door panels finished and the top painted and reassembled. All so it's ready by the May Carlisle show.

Redo rear suspension, mounts, seals, springs, u joints and such by the time the roads are clear. Front suspension also needs going thru.

Sell my 14 inch panasports, buys some 15 inch rims, and drive the car all summer. I would like to finish undercoating it and buffing out the paint, make it to the TRF and Carlisle Import show.

All that is secondary to getting my son off to what ever college he chooses and start to get my daughter ready to find her college

To try and get something done on my 1970 TR6 restoration project while working as Chairman of the 6-Pack TRials this year. Making the TRials the best I can takes precedence however.

I want to get electricity run to the garage and start configuring it for the TR’s disassembly. That would mean cleaning it up and building storage so I have a place to put the parts as I take them off the car. Maybe a few new tools also. :yesnod:

Mine's simpler : Finish stripping ole TS39781LO and get the carcass hauled away.

It's still up for grabs if anyone wants it. Good to practice your body (and frame) working skills on, if nothing else.

Fix the overheating problem on my TR3, upgrade to wire wheels and OD, and work out any remaining mechanical and cosmetic kinks.

To put some miles on the GT6, and not via a flatbed.
Whats red and smells like blue paint?.....
(I thought it was funny)I had never heard that one before.

Re: So what are your 2010 Triumph-related resoluti

Bring my 74 TR6 back into daily service and use as my primary car.

Sell our old house so we can build the Triumph workshop/garage and get the Triumphs out of storage.

To finally get my speedometer working again. I put it off all last year because I have GPS/navigation that tells me my speed already. Maybe someone can PM me a good link to an article on changing a Spit w/OD's speedo cable and angle thingy? HAHA! Man I really need to fix that thing!

Convince my boss to sell me the "extra" OD Tranny he claims to have, Find a cheap set of used "windtone" horns to restore, find a TR2 grille at a reasonable price, Get the chassis done on the TR2 project.
Oh yea... Fix the Clutch hydraulics on my brothers TR6 and convince him it needs to live here this summer.... hehehehehehe

No article to offer, but I can give you a tip : Almost certainly, the angle drive is broken. And almost certainly, it is not the only problem. If you just change the angle drive, the other problem will quickly ruin the new one.

In my case, it was dry bearings in the speedo head that would turn when cold, but heat up and bind in operation.

Alright then. I'll just replace everything. It worked fine till last winter. I think the gauge froze so I'll pull that and check it while the angle and cable are on order. Maybe I'll start a new thread on this later

I hesitate to call it a 'resolution', but this year I'd like to get something done on the TR3. In the begining, I had no idea what I was getting into. In the first year I got the body off, most everything taken apart, several parts completely rebuilt, and purchased almost all the missing parts. The last 2 years I've made almost no progress, but I have a much better idea of what I've gotten myself into. I enjoy working on the car, and refuse to set a deadline. I prefer to think I'm doing the best I can, when I can.

As a resolution for the year, I'd like to at least decide if the 5-speed is going into the TR6 or TR3 -and move it that direction. -and I hope to drive the TR6 as much as last year, with as few problems.

Hi Jer - have you thought about setting up a "rule" on the TR3 that each day you'll do something, no matter how small, but something on her every day?

Hmmm...at the moment, my Triumph-related resolution will be to get the '95 Mercury daily driver up and running again. My son is recovering nicely from his knee surgery and wants his car back, so looks like the ever-faithful Herald is going to be doing some yeoman winter service! Beyond the salt on the roads, the biggest problem with driving the Herald in winter is that the 175/70R13 tires on wider-than-stock rims aren't ideal for helping a 1700 lb. sedan bite in the snow!

Let's see, in order
1. install new tires and freshen up painted wire wheels in the process
2. install a rebuilt right front inner tie rod (looked into doing it my self but, will most likely send mine to TRF to be rebuilt)
3. solve the crankcase pressurization mystery if possible (even if venting to the open air works just fine)
4. investigate power generation improvement. Start by looking at battery -> control box -> alternator conversion
5. if time permits, rebuild rear suspension: poly trailing arm bushes, uprated springs (stock height, maybe upgrade to TR6 springs?) and HD rebuilt lever or tube shock conversion.
6. and almost forgot, drive as much as possible b/t these projects!

I have a list as long as my arm of little detail items. Funny, that list never seems to get any shorter...

Bob
