Smokies in November...?

While there are MANY fun roads to experience in the area, the Tail is probably the most publicized.

Yep, and most publicized = most crowded! Plenty of other roads to choose from, and lots to see and do apart from dodging crotch rockets and 18-wheelers.

I've driven the Tail a half dozen times and have only met one 18 wheeler. Maybe I've jusr been lucky.

The crotch rockets are the ones that you really need to be leary of while navigating SR129.

I also got caught behind a Honda Goldwing on one trip...he could have stopped his bike, put the kickstand down, and walked through the turns faster than he was taking them.

OK - just throwing this out to see if anyone bites:

Just learned about the "Southern Dozen" - 12 different drives out of Johnson City, Tenn. Rides vary from 30 to 150 miles each. Any interest?

Those look friendlier than the Tail. Keep tempting us, Mickey.

As others have said, the reality is that there are PLENTY of beautiful roads/drives in the area. It would be great if we could organize a BCF event over there in November. I'm ready and willing to work on this, if we can get enough folks interested. Lots of time to organize something. PM or email me (address is in my profile info), and let's get this thing going!

OK - Resurrecting this idea.

Anyone interested? Janet and I are still planning on being in E. Tennessee from November 5-17. Anyone interested in getting together for drives/cookouts/whatever? Our home base will be Townsend, just on the edge of the Great Smoky Mtn. Nat'l. Park. Lots of hotels, campgrounds, and rental cabins around.

Nearby attractions: The Park, of course; Dollywood; Gatlinburg; Tail of the Dragon; enough arts and crafts to gag a maggot; bluegrass music; etc., etc.

We're going, regardless. Just thought some of you might want to make the trip, and perhaps celebrate the launch of the new BCF! Plus, just to sweeten the deal, Janet and I would be more than willing to cook up a pot of gumbo, red beans and rice, and/or jambalaya.

Any takers?

Boy, wish I could join in. A bit far of a trip for me, though.

Very tempting. 9 hours from me. I'm thinking about it, it all depends. Gotta talk to the boss.

Townsend, huh, Mick?

My wife,s family is from that area: Loudon, Sweetwater, et al.

Pretty country.

Pretty indeed! Plenty to see; if you want theme park atmosphere, it's there; but lots of still pristene areas to enjoy as well.

Color me ready!

Dang Mickey, I just discovered we have subscription ballet tickets at Kennedy Center 11/8 & 15. :cryin: I was the same colour as you! Plus, if we did that trip it would include a couple nights in Ashville...so not being able to stuff 10# of in a 5# sack, we are not going to be able to make it. Do it again in the spring and it should be a different story.

How come I don't remember the Toll Booth on the Dragon? :confuse: Maybe their still looking for me! :driving:

The Dragon at 60mph?

Where shall I send the flowers for your funeral?

Mickey, Annie has her holidays approved for the first week of November.
All I have to do is book a cottage and we are there.
Now if a few more BCF members are up for a meeting.
Well, I'm waiting?

Dave

C'mon, folks - let's get a party going! Nov. 5-10.
