This morning I was unable to get on the forum so I went to my server via an SSL program and did not see anything unusual so I called tech support. He said it looked like I was running out of "max clients" on my server, which did not make any sense because only a handful of IPs were hitting my site at that time. Well, after about an hour on the phone with him we finally figured out (or he did) that some other web site (Virtual Private Server – VPS) that shares the same physical server as BCF was using excessive resources (more than they were allocated). This was causing my web site (and any others on the same box) to bog-down because there was not enough memory to handle all the MySQL queries that BCF requires when you load a page.

Anyway, we "think" we now at least understand what the problem is. They are going to talk to the owners of the other "VPS" that is using all the resources and suggest that they move to a private server since they are getting charged a premium for the excess resource usage anyway. I’m not sure when this will happen, but when it does that should help a lot.

Also, my provider has a new server that is much more powerful and they are going to move BCF once they get the new/faster server up and running (they are waiting for the release of a newer version of some admin software they need before that can go online with it). This should make things much better around here. In the meantime, I apologize for all the slowdowns lately but hopefully it won't be too long before we get things sorted out. Please bear with us. I had a feeling all along that the problem might have been some other VPS sucking up all the memory and CPU resources (I wonder if its some "adult" site? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif ).

Sorry for your frustration... tracking down these sorts of issues is always a real pain.
 
Very intresting but as kinda expected, however I thought maybe a band width issure on the ISP.

Intresting how they are takeing their sweet time to fix the issue. Afraid I would have just shut down the other folks till it was sorted out. But then I am from the nuke em till they glow school.

Due to my current work situation I am only able to check the forum late at night, between 10-11PM Central. Since Sunday the site has been responding well for me between those times. If you get a very very slow response, look at the bottom of the page. I have debugger turned on and it will tell you how fast (or slow) the page took to generate. Anywhere from less than 1 sec, to 10 seconds would be in the "normal" range depending on how many people are on at one time and what they are doing at that moment. If the debugger says the page loaded fast, but it took a long time for you to actually see it, then the issue could be your own ISP bogging down - or it could be a combination of the two. But if the debugger says it took many more seconds to do X number of querries (like say 60-70 seconds), then the site is clearly being slowed down, probably from some activity on another site that is on the same server.

Rats! I just wrote a long reply about how quick it has been (I open 11 sites at a click and BCF, usually last to open, has been up near the top lately.)

When I posted it, the system timed out. Refreshing brought this:

"Generated in 122.211 seconds in which 121.198 seconds were spent on a total of 12 queries. Zlib compression disabled."

Maybe just transient.
 
I tried getting on this morning about 0430 local, and couldn't. I finally got in, but the message at the bottom of the screen listed a time of 248 Sec. or thereabouts. That was just to get to the Entrance. I couldn't get past that until after 0800, at work.

I'm watching it at various times of the day for Basil - but I've not had any problems yet....if you guys can give me a pattern, I'll make a phone call.

We may still have a few occassions of slow performance, but hopefully things will be better more often than in the past. Once we get moved to the new server that should help a lot, but it may take a while for that.

Here in the eastern USA, I've noticed it to be slowest in the early AM.
I'm kind of an early riser and if I try BCF between 5 and 6 AM it can be pretty slow (often timing out).
Later on in the day, it seems to be much better.
This may not be that noticeable to you guys in the more western time zones (in North America).
 
You know, I got up earlier than usual this morninig & noticed the same thing.
 
I've also noticed it to be slower in the morning. I usually get up between 5:30am and 6:30am and sometimes the forum is really slow coming up. Course I have a dial up connection which makes thing worse. Gets a lot faster as the day goes along though.
 
Starting at about 10 PM until? it is miserable here on the west coast. Like trying to pour Molasses in February.--Keoke
 
Early AM (0300~0600), EST it has been slow to dead. After 0800 it seems to go back to "normal." Are they runnin' Xen as the VM 'ware? Just curious.
