SLOW FORUM - UPDATE!

[ QUOTE ]
Early AM (0300~0600), EST it has been slow to dead. After 0800 it seems to go back to "normal." Are they runnin' Xen as the VM 'ware? Just curious.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't know, but my guess is they are running someting that is affecting the server overall.

That corresponds with morning here (8~9 am) and I've noticed few users seem to be on-line. But we must be the hard-core, heavy-user few? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Things got very slow tonight and my IP determined that it was something to do with MySQL that was causing a slowdown, so on a hunch, he rebuilt the indexes in my "threads" database (That houses all the messages, user info, etc) and as soon as he did that things started running much better. Could it be? Could it be that this simple thing has been the problem all along? Maybe wishful thinking.

At 12:55am edst took about 30 sec to connect and 15 to go from opening page to forums. I'm on dsl line. fwiw

Its 7:45AM central now and its loading very fast for me. Its usually a bit slower than this now. I'm wondering is rebuilding the database indexes might have helped.

As usual, from around 10:30 to 11 pm, MST, on until sometime after 4 - 6 AM, it was so slow just got time outs. Also periodically after the supposed "fix" last evening. Not usually complaining, but you DID ask. It's pretty annoying to have it hang in the middle of a reply. Try resending periodically & sometimes just give up & go look at the MGB forum. As a result, I have cut my activity back considerably, which others may applaud.

For what its worth, I have just purchased a stand alone server. If this doesn't help, nothing will (but it will be a few days before its all set up). /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Over the last 24 to 36 hours I have consistently had poor access to the site (often timing out on me)... Fortunately, I use Firefox with their tabs feature, so I can surf elsewhere until I can see that BCF powers up (indicated on the relevant tab)

Well, hang in there guys...the dedicated server is being set up as we speak. I've also hired a professional server management team to help me make sure things are set up properly and optimized. May take a few days, but once its going and the forum is transferred things should get much better. I am convinced that it is a MySQL Memory issue that is being caused by other sites hogging resources (Maybe doing backups?).

I presume you and/or your folks will plan how & when to do backups and will periodically test the restore procedures. (I know you're well versed in all this but it just came to mind.)

You presume correctly. I have to pay extra for backup capability, but I certainly will be.
