Brian Shul, "Sled Driver", delivers motivational talk on his experiences flying the SR71, and photography. Well worth an hour or so of your time.

Saw that a while ago. And GregW posted a link to it in the Photography group, too (Page 2). Well worth the time to watch. Shul's book has become "Unobtanium" as far as price is concerned.

RSO Conrad Seagroves lived in our area for years before he was taken by cancer. He retired as a Colonel. Had some great conversations with him.

In the video, Shul mentioned the books were in the $500 range. He had some with him at the presentation that he was selling for ~$250, proceeds going to the Wounded Warrior program.

Have watched that several times. Outstanding speaker, outstanding story, outstanding life.

A good friend of mine is a Docent at the local Nuclear museum. Stopped in one day not long ago and met "Bob", another Docent there.
Notice the patch in the lower-right (your right) of his vest? He was a Blackbird Fueler.

He's got the "3+" patch! 👍

From the New York Times:
Brian Shul, a retired Air Force major who modestly described himself as “a survivor” rather than a hero after he was downed in a Vietnamese jungle, suffering near-fatal injuries, before rebounding to pilot the world’s fastest spy plane, died on May 20 in Reno, Nev. He was 75.

The cause of death, in a hospital, was cardiac arrest, said his sister and sole survivor, Maureen Shul, a former mayor of Castle Pines, Colo. He had earlier collapsed as he finished regaling the annual gala of the Nevada Military Support Alliance with his aerial adventures.

Oh man, sorry to hear. That happens to have been our anniversary. He gave great speeches. Here’s a fun snippet of the time “a twelve year old” grabs the mic button!

He lived an interesting life, and had a talent for making the extraordinary seem relatable. I thoroughly enjoyed his book Sled Driver. Godspeed.

Sad to hear of his passing. All of those guys were amazing individuals for their time. Another bunch of folks of caliber were the Misty guys: "Fast FAC." Burt Rutan was one.

Basil's photo of "Bob" and the patches dates back to some recollections, the MAC and TAC ones, especially. We (AAVS) were under MAC as an organization but all were assigned to TAC bases.

I have a brand new “Vision of Eagles EAA” hat signed by Burt Rutan that I got from attending an EAA dinner celebrating the Voyager aircraft. Burt along with Jeana Yeager piloted the Voyager non-stop around the world. I’m saving the hat to give to my grandson one day.

I have a personalized autographed book (actually I got it personalized for my son, but he keeps it here), "Voyager" from back in the day when he was a guest speaker at a Dining Out wife and I attended.

Your post with photo of book prompted me to look for the autographed hat I have.
I had it wrong, the hat was personally signed by Dick Rutan and not his brother Burt.
