Show and Tell - new carpet & progress

JP
When your car was made I think the only color available with white was black and maybe tan.
If you want to continue the retro look you should go with red/white piping or black/white piping seats. Personally, I agree with others who have posted and vote the red.

JP you need to get that car out in the sunshine for the next set of pics...

JP -

I have to ask something that has been bugging me that I might have totally messed up on. To refil the tranny - where's the fill plug?

A) Though the shaft area (good; I don't have to tear up the carpet)??

B) On the tunnel area via an access panel (that I covered up (DCO) in my haste to finish the carpetting)??

I haven't tackled anything yet - getting to it soon, it's been 3+ years since I filled / replaced the tranny and simply I forget.

You are right - red was not an option for my years. FWIW, neither was OEW - only glacier white. for now the plan is to run the black seats - if budget permits that might change.... though if it looks OK, I will likely just leave it and find another project. Don't forget, my goal here is not accuracy but feel

fill plug is half way up the passenger side. I had to top it up the other night and the easiest way is (with the car on jackstands)

1. remove plug
2. put a 2-3 ft piece of hose on the end of the gear oil bottle.
3. find a kind daughter or like minded individual
4. feed the hose beside engine on passenger side
5. insert hose in hole
6. have kind individual squeeze bottle till oil runs out
7. pull hose and cap

NO carpet removal necessary

I used a pump attachment on the bottle and pumped it in from under the car, due to having no helper.

Thanks -- it's been one of those dread things that I've been afraid to tackle.

Yeah, I did the rear end and the trans in one session.
The rear was a little easier, but I was ready for a cold beverage afterward.

Where abouts did you get the carpet from. I am thinking of redoing mine and wanted a nice quality set. Did you get any sound material underneath. It looks like you did a really nice job.
Thanks,
Allan

mine came from Stock Interiors (https://www.stockinteriors.com/) I was happy with the price and the quality. I decided not to put sound material underneath.

Tranny fluid,

Guys if it's a rib case or a smooth case you can fill tranny simply by removing the gear shift. Fill plug is good but sometimes difficult to get access to.

JIm - I'm not sure if this is true for 1500 trannys. I tried it and it didn't seem to work - or I did it wrong

Removing that plug and adding oil is only half the battle.
Getting that %&^#* plug back in is an art form.
I wound up using some long needle nose locking pliers to get it started without dropping the bloody thing.
Then there is the rubber plug which hates to return to it's confinement.
Brilliant engineering. :wall:

Haha, you guys. Put the plug in a socket with a 6" extension. No ratchet yet and just put it in.

Yup - I used Jack's extension trick when I did mine recently.
Worked great!

I tried that "just put it in a socket". Plug fell out before I could get it in place. It wasn't a snug enough fit in the socket to stay put when pointed down. Maybe I wasn't holding my tongue right as Granpa used to say. The locking needle nosed made it simple enough. LOL...they are now part of my SST collection for the Sprite.
