Should I grab these knockoff rims?

Great, now I HAVE to go check it out /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Citroen SM's are great road cars! You'll sell that old Caddy after you get the SM roadworthy!

Just to keep some "sembilance" of MG-ism, I'd like to see a photo of those wheels...

Scooped up the Rims and Checked out the Citroen

I went this afternoon and made the knockoff rims "Go Missing" as the shop owner put it. Threw them in the truck and brought them across the street to work. I brought one inside and took the pressure washer to it. I got a lot of the greese and grime off it, but will clean them up properly when I get them home.
The writing inside the rims is:
DUNLOP
4-00,4-50-18 C200
Made in Great Britan.

They still have the origional rubber lining in them, and the splines (thanks for the explanation) seem unworn, if at all. There are no dents or gouges in them either. They look real nice, except for the red paint that is flaking off. There is absolutly no rust either.
Can these be sand blasted without ruining them?

I also took another look, close up, at the Citroen. The paint is starting to flake on the hood, but I didn't see any real rust on it yet. The shop owner liked the idea of me trying to find a home for it.

Sorry, I missed that reply last time.....I think I've got a few of when they where still on the car....Came on my 61 MGA, it was own by a movie producer in France who had these custom made for it....When I bought the car I called him, seamed real proud of his wheels....little did he know they where already off the car.....Anyway I'll look around for the pic.

BTW: I haven't gone to see the Citroen yet....A friend of mine is selling his TD, I haven't seen it in years....But if it's anything like I remember I'll probably be adding another car to the fleet, naturally MG's take priority over citroens.

I just sandblasted a set of wire wheels and they came out great. I'm now coating them with an etching primer, and then I'm using Moss silver wheel paint on top.

Do NOT blast the splines. Clean them by hand beforehand and protect them for the blasting process. I cleaned mine with Brake spray cleaner, a rag and a brass-bristled brush.

How does the Moss silver compare to the original color? I just did mine & used Eastwoods silver. Pretty darn close color to the original.

The Moss paint is suposed to be very close to original if not identical. The problem is that the paint varied a bit throughout the years so it's impossible to nail one exact shade as "the" original. There is a Mercedes silver that's reported to be a dead ringer for original Dunlop as well.

Even old rattle can silver enemal from Ace is close after a year or so.
