Should I ????? [carb conversion]

Think about the megasquirt. On the BMW 2002, I'm hoping to be able to weld aluminum injectors bosses on the underside of the existing manifold and then build a fuel rail out of tubing and fittings so as to keep that stock appearance. The Mikunis would be disconnected regards fuel lines and just be used as throttle bodies. Putting the bosses on the underside isn't as good (for power and economy)as putting them on top with a straight shot at the valves and inlet ports, but should work adequately. My advisor figures that running the timing off the distributor is adequate for a street enjoy.
For bosses, have a look half way down this page: https://sdsefi.com/eic.html
I've got 45 DCOE and manifold for the 1275 we'll be putting in the silver BE, but I'm concerned that it might be way too much, so EFI is in the back of my head there too, but I own the carb etc., so will try running it that way first.

Would you be able to do something similar (ie keep the DGV carb for your throttle body and add injectors? SDSEFI has some diy pages as part of their web site that might be of interest. ANd they'r maybe 20 km down the road from home, so I'll be stopping by there later this winter.

[problem is only the little cutout on the fender that I am unwilling to make.

I'm kinda with you on that. I won't cut my car for a five speed.

I might just go ahead and go Mega Squirt. I have one here in my desk drawer. It hasn't made my desk run any better. I just don't want to go through the down time. I'll need to wait till summer.

I could fab up a manifold that'll eliminate the cut. Gotta make one anyway.

Morris needs to wade into this conversation as I'm am pretty sure he is using Mega Squirt on his. On the other hand, if it were cost effective (read cheap :wh) I might also be very interested in a manifold that allowed dual carbs but without cutting.

Another conversation I would love to have if you are in the position to manufacture a manifold is putting quad minuki motorcycle carbs on - just because.

This conversation has just become way more interesting to me - thanks!

How much is the interference? Could you cut the carb flanges off of the manifold remove a piece of runner and weld the flanges back on?

Given the small amount of material to be altered, I would consider this an easily reversible body modification. Just my 2 cents.

John-Peter mentioned it earlier when he said:

<span style="font-style: italic">"....a single HS4 (or I think an H144) is more than acceptable...."</span>

I agree.
It's an easy swap and will fit the stock manifold.
And it looks reasonably correct too.
All you have to do is take a rat-tail file to the mounting holes in the carb....and it doesn't require much filing.
I ran an HS4 in my 1500 Midget when it was a street car and it was great.

My Street MGB has a DGV (installed by the previous owner). It runs fine, but I'm just not keen on the way it looks.
I bought a set of stock MGB SUs with manifold for it last Summer.
They'll go on when I can find the time.

Man I've been wanting to do that !!! I even had a set for it but don't know where they are. I think they might have been scrapped durring the Katrina cleanup. I dual set up off a CX500 should be just the right size to replace SU's, and maybe w/o cutting. Anyone here have a pic of a Midget 1500 w/ SU's? I'd like to see how they fit and how much needs to be cut.

Using the DGV manifold for MS, all I need for a throttle body is one off of a CIS(E) VW Golf, Jetta etc...I think Volvo used the same one too and I believe the Jetronic system used it as well. Not hard to come by.

hey Look- another 300 dollar alternator!!!

A bit pricey. I'll roll my own, thanks. Pretty Spit though. My buddy has an old CX500. I might steal his carbs.
