Shipping a car-

I know that we have had a bunch of good topics about shipping cars across the country (ie: Drew buying the MGB and Drew selling the Bugeye) but I can't find them.
Can someone help here?
Thanks

Hey Bill, Off topic.
How's the new digs

WONDERFUL!!
We see the sun nearly every day and the humidity is pretty low (say 40%).
It gets hot every day in the summer, around 90 but we haven't had to turn on the AC yet so that isn't bad!
The place is small but I can have stuff outside without having it rust away so that is OK too.
Prices here are about the same as in the Puget Sound so that wasn't a shock.
My wife hates heat (and cold too) so Seattle was good for her but I like to see the sun and this place has it!
I LOVE it here.

Don't know if you're looking for stories or just info, but here's some info. :eeek:

First, though you probably know this, nearly all the companies out there are brokers... and it's hard to deal directly with a transporter. That's not a bad thing but is the way most work. I think the typical situation is that the broker is getting about 30% (or more), but the transporters like being supplied with regular work.

Second, get ready for an onslaught of emails and phone calls if you get multiple bids (especially on-line). You can even tell them that there services are no longer needed, but that won't stop them. It's a cut-throat industry.

Third, go to a website that reviews them (in an impartial way - from people that have just used a given company). You'll find that there are specialists for across country or the eastern corridor, and some don't do "enclosed" shipping.

Fourth, I used "Magic Carpet" (yes, a broker that used, in my case, "Exotic Motor Transport" - the truck had Lambos and some antiques in it). Magic Carpet has some of the best reviews anywhere and you can check them out at https://www.magiccarpetautotransport.com/ . They ere reasonably priced and good to work with (and I have no connection to them at all). They were much less expensive than the one Jay Leno recommends (that is highly regarded - "InterCity").

Guys-
Thanks for the info!
Steve (bought Drew's Bugeye) PM'ed me with the info on his move and I am checking it out. Good personal recommendation from Steve so I will try it first.
