Shift Levers for Datsun 210 5 speeds????

I'm getting a "Dogleg" transmission that has been identified as a "79 transmission in an 81 car." The S/N is 6d8718406...there is no "F" anywhere, but it does have a #60 on the right side forward of the tail-housing on the bell housing portion. I tried to ID it here, but could not find any info...

I'm up for N.O.S.H.I.T. meeting for doing the tranny swaps. Paul A. is in the middle of rebuilding mine at the moment, but it should be back on the road by spring. Always remember Paul is very very good, but you can't be in a hurry. I dropped my car at his place in early November..............

The B210 numbers on the transmissions are:

"FYW 60" = 4 Speed & "FS5W63A" = 5 Speed

Also,the shifter on the 5 speed isn't
as straight as the 4 speed. The 5 speed was
only sold on '78's (last year of the B210).

To complicate things a little more, you can also get a 60A and a 60L.
The 60L has a hardier gearbox for higher torque motors.
It's also a lot rarer and from what I've read is in demand by racers.

I've got both out of the cars & on the garage floor.
If anyone needs actual numbers, measurments, etc.,let me know.
I'm still debating on which trans to put into the car.
When I part out the third car ('74),I'll have another 4 speed.

Hey - thanks for looking, mrsprite!

The parts chap phoned back today and advised that - near as he can tell - they're still available out of Japan (two to three month delivery time) and sell for about $ 87.00...... Looks like it'll be worthwhile doing a bunch of digging around before ordering.

$87 plus shipping for a 5 speed shift lever? Geeze!!

Note on Ed's transmission above how long that shifter is.
When in the Midget or Sprite the thing sticks up above the dash.
Not at all comfortable for driving.
The one I'm using now is cut down to about 6 inches and is very comfortable to use. Something to think about.

Shift lever shortening definitely needs to be done. My 4-speed shift lever isn't so bad, but the 5-speed one pictured looks like an ape-hanger....I might just use my 4-speed one.

Is that a shift lever in the picture? I thought it was a chinning bar!

The Rivergate manual suggests cutting the Datsun lever off fairly close to the transmission and then welding the upper portion of the Spridget lever along side (I don't have the manual in front of me, so this is memory and could be wrong). So - if someone wants to keep that chinning bar portion and sell me the bottom couple of inches....

I can't get into the attic until we get the yellow BE engine/trans/brakes taken care of, then I'll crawl up there to see what treasures (hopefully, seats and shift levers) are stored up there.

Doug

PS: the $ 87 is Canadian dollars, so only about 83.50 US

I probably won't be installing this until Spring. Not sure when you need the lever. I'll most likely keep the 4 speed shifter (if indeed they are interchangeable). You can have the chinning bar for shipping.

P.S. I think shipping will be around $75....
