No, they are not leather just your every day vinyl. Then console is a JC Witney Special right from the cataloge.

You mentioned installation directions at the front of the post,that sure would make for a good addition to this thread.
 
I'm now just starting ot replace the interior on my '75TR6.The carpeting was replaced about five years ago,and now I'm doing the door panels,etc.with a RF kit and am pleased with the appearance of the pieces.....looks vety close to the original....however,I'm also restoring the seats as original and feel that this is a mistake,given the poor comfort of that original-style seat....we will see
 
The instructions are too long to write here, email me and I'll send them to you. Just so you know, my friend who first put these into his 250 and helped me with mine has started a new buisness. He is building new frames for TR4a IRS thru 6's and is also developing some custom parts, one of them being the seats ready for instalation with all customizing done and brackes made. If this intersts anyone email me for more info as he is not yet an advertiser on the forum.
 
gerdo, i searched thru the salvage yards for seats to fit a tr6 and found none that would fit, i searched the internet for seats and came up with a pair of used seats from a wrecked 2003 porsche 911. they are a tad bit tall but the headrest is exactly where it should be. they are comfortable,very nice looking and they fitalmost perfectly. they were a little pricey but if you take into account the price of leather seat covers, replacement foam, and the cost of having an upholsterer put the seats together, i think that they were a good deal, although not original eguipment,but i am looking for comfort. p.s. the seats i got came from losangelesporschedismantlers.com you have to keep looking but eventually a deal will come up. allen

Hi all,

For autocrossing, won't you want a close-fitting, fixed-back seat that can accomodate a 4 or 5 point harness to securely hold you in the car? Most Recaro, Miata, Vicky Brit, etc. seats have the tilting/folding/reclining backs and less side support than would be needed in hard corners.

I'm looking at something similar for my TR4. Corbeau offers Clubman and Classic seats that look the part and should fit. www.corbeau.com My main concern with these is that my butt might not fit into the seat very well. If at all possible, try before you buy! Also, there are a wide number of online sellers offering Corbeau seats with free shipping... which can be a significant cost with oversize items like seats. (Google for: Corbeau "free shipping" and you'll find quite a few. I think one is www.soloracer.com?)

Corbeau Clubman seem to run around $220 apiece for cloth or vinyl. Classic cost about $250 apiece. Leather is an option for either, but pricey.

Off road (Jeep) seats might be too tall, depending upon the rules of the autocross class you enter. If a roll bar is needed, it might be specified to a minimum number of inches above the driver's helmet. A tall seat can mean a tall roll bar that makes it impossible to raise and lower the soft top of the car.

Corbeau doesn't appear to have seat brackets specific for Triumph TRs, but they do offer a universal set that can be drilled and adapted. Or, there are brackets available from www.summitracing.com, Jegs and others. Or, they might just be fabricated from old brackets. Again, it's important to check the rule book for the autocross class you plan to enter. Some race classes require non-adjustable or double locking adjusters on seat brackets.

Hi Gerdo, since you want to do autocross my suggestion is to use some kind of semi racing seat that REALLY holds you in place.
This is based on the fact that even with a 5 point harness I slid around on the stock seat of my TR4a, a slippery vinyl seat admittedly, and once hit the gas pedal instead of the brake at a rather critical moment.

A real racing seat like a Kirkey will hold you so tight you cannot move, and will actually improve your control over the car, but may not be practical for everyday driving.
Race and sport seats are usually very narrow and can be mounted quite low, so should fit well. Buy from a place with a showroom not a catalogue house so you can try out the seat for comfort and fit before you buy.

I agree and could never understand why the seats were made so short. Of course when I was 165 instead of 200 + more than I like to admit, the seats did fit better. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I did not notice it in my other Triumphs but I think it was due in a large part that they did not have head rests.
