Funny. If it wasn't for bike racing and skiing, I'd have finished my car years ago. Even though I have been designing bikes for 20+ years, I still reach for the down tube to shift sometimes.
New Seats. The covering is far from perfect...but it looks a lot better than the ripped and patched appearance of the old seats. More comfortable, too! DSC_2015 by onyxsax, on Flickr
Overall, I am happy with the end result. The entire car just seems nicer with the new seats, as well as the various other fixes I did during the winter. Can't wait for warmer weather!
The style is original, but these are the VB covers and foams. The headrests were matched up and restuffed by the local upholster shop. '69 was the only year of the Sprite to have the high back bucket seats with headrests. I actually drove the car without the headrests installed, and it was fairly comfortable even without them.
We just missed have a great convertible day by less than 20 miles. The clouds never broke over us, so our temps stayed in the high 40s. Meanwhile, down at Reagan National, the clouds broke and they tied the all time record for the day with 68 degrees. Yes, I could have taken the car out top down and bundled up...but not to go visit my parents. I may be a couple years shy of 50, but my parents still try to parent me.
The blue is a shade or two lighter than the stock Mineral Blue color, which has made matching a bit of a pain. It's a real nice "10 foot" paint job. Once you start getting closer, you can see a lot of the imperfections. When the time comes to having the car repainted, I'll go back to the stock Mineral Blue color.
Looks great! The seats look thinner somehow. My wife and her best frend were at a conference in Baltimore this week. They did not like driving north again.
