Safety Inspection Adventures....

Drew...I'm sure Mike does inspections, but the 45 mile round trip....

If they advise me again on it, I'll suggest that they crawl under the dash and check and see where it was mounted

Emissions are no problem. The miracle of Bosch jetronics takes care of that.

Ah yes, the old "state inspection" thing. A couple of years ago the Maryland emissions program bought me a new trans for my Audi quattro. Tracy took it in, parked in the all wheel drive lane. She told the "technician" not to touch anything because you can lock the diffs, etc. Of course they knew better than some dumb girl (she is my partner in the shop, and knows more about cars than most men....) So, the genius strapped the all wheel drive Audi down on the rear wheel drive dyno, and ran the car up for the emission test. Blew the center diff in short order. They showed up the day after I filed the claim with a check for 3700.00 (half down)from petty cash, and another when the car was finished. Thanks Maryland. I will no longer submit to the dyno test with any car. They are welcome to do the tail pipe test, but I won't let them in my car at all. I have so many stories from inspection.... Failing a big Healey for rotors that were too THICK!!!. Having to get a model A thru DC emissions.... They go on forever.

It may havb been an urban myth, but when I lived in New York the story was, You had to have working windshield wipers but you didn't have to have a windshield as long as it wasn't cracked or obscured with stickers.
I believe that the wording was such for a brief while, but it's since been rectified.
I'm a licenced NYS inspector. Currently we have yearly safety/ emissions testing on modern cars, and just safety on older cars. It's fairly reasonable, but there is grey areas.

Safety inspections in Arkansas...what a rip off!!!! I was never so glad to see those things go. I remember taking my car in to get it safety inspected...guy wouldn't pass it because he said I needed a $35 "headlight alignment" I went home, handed the keys to my husband and he went back to the same exact station and was passed on the same car 15 minutes later by the same guy!!!! I wonder how many women they ripped off over the years with Bull *&#@ trumped up fake charges to get a $2 sticker? I hated those things because I had to stand there while some pimply faced thing (or worse yet some cigar chewing fat slob) treated me like I was a mechanical idiot.
I know there are too many cars on the road that shouldn't be there and safety inspections could reduce this, but I'd rather see 10 of those crappy cars than have to drive INTO one of those inspection stations EVER again!
End of RANT
