Ah yes, the old "state inspection" thing. A couple of years ago the Maryland emissions program bought me a new trans for my Audi quattro. Tracy took it in, parked in the all wheel drive lane. She told the "technician" not to touch anything because you can lock the diffs, etc. Of course they knew better than some dumb girl (she is my partner in the shop, and knows more about cars than most men....) So, the genius strapped the all wheel drive Audi down on the rear wheel drive dyno, and ran the car up for the emission test. Blew the center diff in short order. They showed up the day after I filed the claim with a check for 3700.00 (half down)from petty cash, and another when the car was finished. Thanks Maryland. I will no longer submit to the dyno test with any car. They are welcome to do the tail pipe test, but I won't let them in my car at all. I have so many stories from inspection.... Failing a big Healey for rotors that were too THICK!!!. Having to get a model A thru DC emissions.... They go on forever.
