Sad ending for this Triumph & driver

Ugh! This story makes my stomach turn on so many different levels. Just sickening. This is why I nearly always take my car for a drive at 6am on Saturday and Sunday mornings when its just me and the open road. I can't handle 5,000lb SUVs with their grill stuck to my bumper while the driver is texting their friends about where to go out tonight.

No roll bar but I have modern seatbealt with shoulder strap installed.

From what I read of the articles I agree with the murder charge.

When your ticket is finally called, nothing will stop it. Sad to see someone go this way. Many lives have been destroyed by this foolishness.
 
Late to the party but I'm not a seatbelt person. I rolled two different TR4's while in college. If I had a seatbelt on either time I wouldn't be typing this post. I'm not promoting not wearing a seatbelt, it just doesn't work for me. I've paid more than one or two fines for not having mine on. I don't fuss or make noise when I get one, just send my money in and keep going.

Marv, if you have insurance, please think of your family. I have heard of insurance companies trying to get out of payment of claims if law is broken and not wearing a seat belt in most states violates some sort of law. If you are seriously hurt or killed, your death benefit might be in jeopardy without the belt on.
 
Having started this thought I would add....Here in California the law (as I understand it) is that the seat belt law is enforced as was the year the car was manufactured....Thus there was no law in 1960 when my car was made....so I am not required to have belts....but...I cannot have a child in the car without belts. Thus...belts are installed so my grandkids can ride. I am really torn on this subject. With all the very large vehicles on the road today has to make all of us more cautious. Like many of you I try and drive like they cannot see me...which many of them cannot. Gil NoCal
 
This is a really sad tale. I must say, I've been taking the kids for rides in our cars less and less over the years. Perhaps as I get older I get a bit more cautious. Or perhaps it's because I see a continuous increase in aggressive driving around DC. Unfortunately, that means that the kids get less and less exposure to the sheer joy of operating old cars.

Some days, I really do think it's time to open the Soylent Green factories...

True, as far as that goes. However, if you DO install seat belts (even though you needn't) you are required to wear them.
 
As you discuss seatbelts, here is a bit of irony: A state delegate here in WV who opposed the mandatory seatbelt law refused to wear his belt. A few years ago he was returning home with his family after Christmas shopping and hit a patch of ice. He was the only one not wearing a seatbelt in his truck, the other 5 were buckled in. He was the only one injured, and he was killed at the scene. He was also a friend of mine and a former Austin Healey 3000 owner.

Second story. When I went to get my signature notarized on my driver's license application when I was 16, the notary public (who was a good friend of my dad growing up) had lost his oldest son because he was strapped into the seat in his Jeep. The passenger had been thrown clear and survived.

So...it just depends on the circumstances I guess.

Technically correct, and yet I have never had an officer look to see if there were belts laying on the floor. They just look at the registration, and put "NA" in the seat belt box. When my 3A got totalled, the officer got as far as asking whether I was wearing my belt, then said "Of course not, your car is too old." before I said anything.
 
A horrifying and terribly sad story.
It appears the motorcycle and car pulled off the main road, paused and continued after the other car had passed them- so difficult to see it as a "crime of passion" after an opportunity for emotions to cool.

Regarding roll bars and seat belts; I used to have a very strong roll bar for racing, but always had it heavily wrapped with foam padding. In road driving it is much more likely you will get rear ended and your skull smack the bar than that you will roll.

This poor man seems to have survived the rollover since he was heard screaming from the burning wreck, though he may have been injured badly or pinned down, there is no way of knowing if a roll bar would have saved him.
