TR6 S2 Cam in TR6

I purchased a 1976 TR6 last Spring. The owner told me he had a "S2" cam installed. He had also installed a Pertronix ignition. I have installed twin Weber MCHH carbs.

I can no longer reach the seller as he now lives outside the USA and the old email address doesn't work.

My Question is: what valve clearence/s should I use? I failed to check clearances before I had a mechanic work on the car so they are presently set to factory specs for a factory standard cam.

Ted Schumacher markets the S2 cam (TSIAUTOMOTIVE.com) and he can tell you what to set the valves at. If the engine is totally stock except for the cam, the settings may be different from my settings with my S2 cam, which is 16 intake and 18 exhaust on a modified engine.

Bill: Thanks for the reply. Irronically I bought my car from a guy in Slidell, LA.The cam may very likely be from the vendor you suggested.

I don't know if any other internal mods were done at the time the cam was installed but there was a "British Leyland Competiton Manual" among the goodies Peter ledft for me.

I have added twin Weber 45MCHH carbs and an Ansa Exaust system.

Ther car runs very strong. THANKS AGAIN!

Jere, that wouldn't have been one Peter Holley you bought the car from, was it? If it was, I think the head has been shaved on that car. Persimmon color, headers. Peter now works overseas, he is a nurse practitioner. He lived in my town for years before moving to Slidell. Drove that car more than a few times. Almost bought it myself! Check your compression, it might have had the head done.

Small world.

I thought so. Brent is your son, right?

Glad you are enjoying my friend Peter's TR6. He owned that car for many, many years and hated to sell it but had no choice. Treat it right, Peter will appreciate it if and when I ever see him again.

The S-2 cam, along with the S-4 and S-5, were uprated/competition cams sold by the BL/JRT US competition department. I seem to recall that Kas Kastner may have had something to do with their development.

TSI is apparently reproducing them, since the JRT competition department is no longer extant, & started running out of them around 1980 anyway.

Some of the specs from the Competition Department cams is posted at

Bill: Man, the world is definately smaller with the advent of the WEB. Yes, it was Peter Holly's TR! I have named her "Lady Brennon" as I understand a Mr. Brennon, the restauranteur in New Orleans, was the original owner.

She's in a local paint and body shop for minor body work and a fresh paint job. I have stripped all carpet and interior panels and have laminated a new dash with Pau Fero wood and will be installing new Smith gauges with magnolia faces. Also have a Moto Lita stering wheel wating on the garage wall.

I have had all steering mech replaced, added a rear sway bar, minilite wheels (charcoal color), transmission rebuilt....and the beat goes on...

If you know the mechanic's name or shop name who did the engine worl in LA, I'd sure like to contact them for more info on what work was performed.

Yes, Brent is my son. If you see or hear fom Peter tell him I refer to her as "my 32 year old briish misstress" and I spoil her rotten! I'll send you some pics when she's back form the body shop.

Jere,

Where did you get the new gauges with the Magnolia faces?

:thumbsup:There are two sources I found. They are:Nisonger Instruments, Inc. (www.nisonger.com) and APT Instruments International, Inc. (www.gaugeguys.com).

I bought mine at APT. They were very patient with me as it took 5 months for me to make up my mind and after several conversations with them I made my purchase by phone. They shipped the same day.

Happ restoration!
