Rusty Boot Lid Follies

Hello All

I decided to tackle the rust boot lid this weekend. You'd think I'd soon run out of rusty metal to replace on this car... I've provided photos of my work. Posted these on Photobucket with some descriptive text, in case anyone is interested.

Thanks Andy

I need to get this one running so I can pay some attention to the 64' Herald 1200 (which actually runs and has a lot less rust).

Very Nice Work Pat! :hammer:  If you need some patches for other areas let me know. I've got a few bits laying around.

Wow, that's impressive work, Pat! After I saw your opening shot, I was going to pass along a contact for some body panels, but never mind. I can see you have capable hands!

Are you going to paint it yourself, too?

I would like to paint it myself. I've been goofing off with some test panels to see if I could do a respectable job of shooting urethanes. Most of the car can be painted in pieces, so I wouldn't need a huge booth. Here is a test panel with Mercedes Arctic White with black stripe. I think this would look pretty good on my TR, don't you?

Thanks for the update Pat, and with metal fab skills like that fair warning that I'm bringing a bunch of fenders with me when I come up for Thanksgiving w/ the inlaws.

Nice going!

Let me know if you re in town Tom. If you need an In-Law escape, stop by my man cave and we can bet on metal and talk cars.

Looks great Pat.

I have a similar project on the Bonnet of mine. Will take some photos when I get there.

BTW, your paint scheme looks very similar

Cheers,

Very nice work. What's in all those metal cans that you are cutting above? Would hate to see anything bad happen.

WOW Pat Your work looks great. And I think I know a little about metal! When you retire there is a whole new career ahead of you! Very nice work!!!!!

Pat,

Very nice work on both the welding and painting. Really impressive bringing that trunk lid back to life instead of just replacing it!

No "Follies" here Pat. Your work looks great! And of course you know what I think of the paint job. And the Herald too.

Very nice job. Excuse my ignorance but how did you do that wavey pice with the lip on it in photo 10. Aaah I see that stretchie thing, does that fold it and curve it?
I am lucky that I have no budget to repair my TR4 so that means no decision re whether I do it myself or not. I have purchased a used (preowned)Tig welder but am apprehensive about replacing the battery tray.
