you should be able to paint it in pieces, I did my TR6 that way, and with urethanes and hardners you can wet sand and buff it to get the dust specs out and you can also clear coat it if you want to. Just talk to your paint guy for compatable systems and dont use primers from the local auto store, better use SEMs for spot priming if you go down to metal after you prime with 2 part epoxy

That looks like the harbor freight stretcher shrinker, is it any good? I've thought about getting one, but I dont know anyone who owns one to know if it's worth the money, or if I should spend a whole bunch more for one from eastwood or the like.

HF shrinker and stretcher is a decent tool if you just use occasionally. It takes more frequent adjustment (mostly tightening) as parts just shake loose after very little use. But it was a cheap alternative to Eastwood, who sells a better unit for about $180. I would buy the HF unit again, for light hobby use. It definitely works well for the types of curves you'd need to do on your TR. Wait till it goes on sale or use the discount coupons that they send out in the mail all the time. Good luck with that!
 
Thanks! I'm about to send my body tub off to get chem stripped, and will need to fabricate a lot of replacement sections of metal to chop out and weld in rust repairs on the tub, hence why I've been looking at metal forming tools... but my budget is limited, as everything has gone into parts for the restoration project (see my thread near the top of the forum, started a year ago) =)
