Runs a Bit - Then Quits

Healey Rick - I just read the guide to citrus flushing you linked to - have you done this before? What did the effluent look like the first time you did it?

Nate,

First time for me. Not finished the flush yet, but so far I'm getting a lot of clean water so I'm not sure my system is in that bad shape. I'll let you know when I'm finished and whether there's any difference.

Finished the flush and buttoned everything back up. Runs perfect. It was the leak from the thermostat shorting out the electrics. This would have been a mystery fit for Gus Wilson and the Model Garage. What a great column that was and taught even us amateurs a lot about diagnosing problems. You whippersnappers can get a look here: https://www.gus-stories.org/ Not sure you could write such a column these days with all the electronics, but it sure would help modern day wrenchers.

As far as the Mercedes style engine flush went, I was getting nothing but clear water out of the system even though it's been an overly long time since I've swapped the coolant. Car's been running hot and I'm going to run distilled water and DEI Radiator Relief (like Water Wetter) to try and cool a few degrees in summer. I'll let you know how it works. Chased high temperatures on the Nasty Boy V8 with an ali radiator and big electric puller fan, but I'd like to avoid that with the bugeye if possible.

A somewhat better link I have used for 4-1/2 years or more and still works is this:

A bit more direct.
