Re: Rumor has it that Jaybird bought a Triumph....

Friends in our car club own a prize-winning TR3. A beautiful car.

Funniest thing is, they don't own an MG, but are members of our club and attend all our events and functions. Claim that our club is more fun than the 'rumfy' club. Although we open all our events to the Triumph club and visa versa. In fact, their 'Polar Bear' Run had as many MGs as 'rumfs. And the only 2 cars that broke down were 'rumfs!

Tends to happen to cars that rack up thousands of miles in a summer instead of a couple hundred. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

BILL, I'm running for the door now, you'd better follow! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

Re: Rumor has it that Jaybird bought a Triumph....

Shawn, you've done confused the two marques. Happens all the time to rumfies. I'd bet a BCF teeshirt that I have put more miles on a B in a calendar year than you have in a 'rumf. But of course, mileage accrued while on a tow dolly being pulled to a mechanic's or home from the side of the road doesn't count in cumulative miles.

Be very careful before you take that bet, because I can document my miles in 3 seconds.

I'd drive a GT6. I think Bugeyes are cute, but the only one I've ever driven made me want to open the driver's door and help it along by pushing with my left foot.

Oh oh, sounds like a challenge... though before you pick on the wrong Rumfie.

My TR8 is my daily driver. Prior to the TR8, my TR6 accumulated more miles per year than my 'primary' car. They are neither garage nor trailer queens. While I do have a AAA membership, its used primarily for parts and room discounts, and other benefits. Although it is a nice security blanket should I need it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/square.gif But I would hate to see you jump to a hasty generalization. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

It was not my intention to pick a fight here in the MG Forum, I just thought TR6Bill could use some company in the foxhole I hope he dug before he started lobbing grenades. Rumfies need to stick together ya know... Just as do the 'Faithful'.

Re: Rumor has it that Jaybird bought a Triumph....

To be honest I have trouble differentiating the two marques...It's all the same to me, doesn't matter what emblem is on it.

Re: Rumor has it that Jaybird bought a Triumph....

I've owned both MG's & Triumph's - love 'em both....love MG's a little more....good folks follow both marques....

Re: Rumor has it that Jaybird bought a Triumph....

Can't disagree with that. Some of my best friends drive MG's.

The diversity of Marques in my local club is also its main strength. We have folks from the Denver area Triumph and MG clubs come up to our events becasue we are so much more fun.

Also know that I wouldn't turn down a BGT if one came my way and I had room for it.

Re: Rumor has it that Jaybird bought a Triumph....

.....& Jag's & AH's & Sunbeams & various Morris' - owned of them all...will probably own some again...aways go back to MG's though....why all the bickering? "Can't we all just get along?" hehehehe

Re: Rumor has it that Jaybird bought a Triumph....

A few years ago when I was a manager at a large electric utility, I had two employees that were rabid Ford/Chevy fans. One hated ford and loved Chevies, the other loved Fords and hated Chevies. Their bickering got so bad and so heated that I had a filing cabinet brought in and placed between them so they couldn't see each other. If they hadn't both been top notch emplyees otherwise, I probably would have fired them for their constant bickering.

I hope the bickering on this forum stays at good natured, all in fun ribbing.

Having owned both makes over the years, I have my opinion on which is the best, but the bottom line is: they are both good. In the next couple of years, I'm going to have to make a choice between the two, and it will be difficult.

Re: Rumor has it that Jaybird bought a Triumph....

I guess I started all this. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angel.gif

I'm going home now.

Re: Rumor has it that Jaybird bought a Triumph....

There was no bickering until I left for the evening. I can't leave you boys alone for a few hours. Good grief.

Everyone knows how I joke about 'rumfs. Operative word being 'joke.' I wouldn't own a LOT of cars, including anything made by Ford/Mercury, Chevy and any other GM, Pontiac (except for the Solstice) and Plymouth/Chrysler (except for the Crossfire).

I put more miles on my LBCs in a year than my 'normal' driver and I wouldn't be caught dead with garage art.

As far as bickering, there was none, never was any as far as I saw. Just good-natured bantering. No bickering at all - not sure what Tony's talking about...
