Rockershaft Auxillary Oil Feed..Is it necessary ?

Re: Rockershaft Auxillary Oil Feed..Is it necessar

So if oil pressure is not compromised at the bottom end, and the aux. oil feed line pours more oil onto the questionable top end, why would one not want it?

Re: Rockershaft Auxillary Oil Feed..Is it necessar

You would not want it if engine is worn out --- bearings, valve guides, oil pump or no baffle in valve cover,--otherwise it is a good idea. One other thing with more oil to the top there is more cooling to the valve train.

Suppliers and racers say it is useful and/or essential if you switch to roller rockers.

Aloha Bunzil,

IMHO, I think Don Elliot's experience is anecdotal evidence that it is not generally needed.

"If you are touring at normal speeds, stay with the original oil feed to the rockers. I've done 174,000 miles on my rocker shaft, cam shaft etc. with no problems. In the past 16 summers, I've driven 94,000 miles and had no problems.

Have you heard the old engineering statement, "If it ain't broke, why try to fix it ?"."

As I posted, I found I was consuming oil excessively (about one quart every 300 miles) through oil leaking into the cylinders via the valve and leakage. Since my engine is rarely above 3000 RPM for an extended period, I decided I to go back to the "original" oil system.

Now if you have a high reving engine and always drive your car vigorously or race it, you may need want this accessory.

If the top end is questionable, your money may be better spent making it sound.
