Right fender rust/cracking problem

FWIW, the replacement bead as supplied from BMIHT/Heritage is crowned as in Doc's car. So were the new Heritage front fenders (the 6in section where the fender meets the windscreen/scuttle.

This is a MAJOR PITA to replace a damaged /rotted section; cannot imagine doing an entire fender worth. The whole panel needs to come off, as it has a 1 inch tab under the folded bit that gets sandwiched/spotwelded between the panel seams. Ick.

Just taken a look at "An MG is Born" video and there is part which goes through the steps of fitting a rear fender and the pictures shows quite clearly that the fender does not have a step profile (unless there is something different about the parts which are being produced by Heritage).

A minor issue!

You know, I bet both are correct. Different suppliers at the factory. What ever was available at the time the bodies were built.

Here's a picture of my 1970's bead, lumpy enough that it could have been ground off as you suggested.

My '76 looks like Doc's. (just the fender, not the whole car unfortunatly)

must be a florida thing /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Yeah, Steve_D. The center "rib" is evident at the very back of yours. It's been 'treated' by a DOP or their ShoddyBop.

Yup. Heritage supplies the same ones as in my photo. If there's a smooth round one been used, it was different than OEM. I have the suspicion if there were some 'forensic archaeology' done on the "round" ones there'd be evidence they were once the same as mine.

Steve, If you look closely at your own photo just in front of the tail light, you'll notice the very slight remains of the upper ridge. Your beads have been ground off by a PO. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif If the ridges on the beads are missing or the whole bead is missing, then they were removed by a previous owner. All MGBs, reguardles as to what the so called bibles say, had the same beading on the fenders. A lot of the photos or drawings in the books we read for information are mostly of cars 30+ years old and some have been in the body shop a half a dozen times over their lifetime. Take a peek at the new Heritage body. As I'm told, made from the original press dies. It has the "crowned" beading, as original!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif PJ

My beading has been ground down at some point in it's life. Is this the same beading in that short run between the front wings? If so, I'll have to "grind to match" when installing new beading on the front.

Same thing front and rear, Mike:
