Hi everyone, my story short and sweet. I've had 3 jobs in my life, US Marines as an avionics technician 11 years, Delta airlines as a A&P mechanic 15 years, Sandvik Mining as a mechanic to a specialist 17 years dealing with blasthole drill rigs in a mining environment. I recently I joined the ranks of being semi-retired and love being home and not on the road.
I've been off since February but with honey dues and in the middle of rebuilding a 03 Forester I've been quite busy. The Subaru is running like a champ and now I'm kind of looking for another project or some work close to home, with no travel to keep me busy until my wife retires, and we can do whatever together.
So, I'm new to British cars but have been a gearhead all of my life. My son picked up this red MG B in a trade with one of his friends and has done nothing with it for maybe 10 years. I picked it up from him and now it is sitting in my garage. After a good cleaning, removal of seats, carpet, top, truck lid and hood it's waiting on me to bring her back to life.
I joined this site because I know and understand that the ones who do belong to a site like this love it and like to help others, they have a wide range of knowledge in just about anything dealing. I'm looking for about everything from schematics to any type of manual needed to work on these cars. It will stay in our family; I'm not looking to flip it or anything like that. One day it will go back to my son, and he can do with it what he wills as long as it stays in the family.
A few pictures so you can see what I'm getting into, thanks and have a great day!

Hey welcome to the wacky world of the British car! Thank you for your service. BYTW maybe you worked on our daughters HS classmate's Harrier in the Yuma area...Ya never know. Good luck with the B. We're on our 6th MG. Fun to tinker with and pray over.

Hello and welcome aboard. First I want to thank you for your service. I saw the before & after pics, your car has already cleaned up nicely! It is a beauty. Moss Motors is a great source for parts. You can download a PDF catalog in full color for your MGB here. It is a searchable file, which makes it much easier than the printed version. Moss will also send you a free printed catalog. > Catalog Downloads | Moss Motors <

Welcome, Rick! From what's in your intro, you've got all the skills to deal with an MGB easily. And I suspect you're one who would prefer having a "hard copy" of a T.O. as a shop manual for the beast. Best one IMHO is the Bentley book:

I got the earlier version in 1969, ahead of buying the first B. It helped keep that one running through two years of college and four years of USAF (1970~'74, Combat Camera). And another decade beyond. Have had others, then and now. Stout li'l cars.

I see in your garage a Connelly board! I've been a Connelly water ski enthusiast since the mid-seventies. A Short Line Graphite 65 in our garage. 😉

Semper fi! Welcome aboard.

Thanks for the info, I'll be looking for a hard copy to keep her running. The board is for paddle boarding, we have maybe a 300-acre lake in our neighborhood with no gasoline engines so it's pretty relaxing. Have a great day!

Thanks! Have to say I took the picture after her bath and she's not as shiny in real life, ha! But she did clean up pretty good. Have to deal with some chipping/pealing clear coat. Going to get her running first then go on to the looks. Thanks for the info on Moss Motors, much appreciated.

I'm late to the party, but welcome to BCF! Sounds like you have had a very interesting and varied career.

Thanks! Semi-Retirement ends next week and I'm headed back to Aviation. I'll be going to work with Lockheed Martin here in Georgia dealing with the C130 structures. This is going to cut into my MG time. I've got the engine and transmission out cleaned with a degreaser and pressure washed. Hope to get the clutch assy replaced put together and back into the car soon. Couple of pictures and if you have any advice before I put it back in please let me know. Thanks!

Good looking start! My 77 is now in the process of a new Weber, exhaust and much needed engine mounts. Found a good (read, reasonable) British guy here in Sussex County, NJ.

In other news the fellow I got my Midget from in 2004 worked for Lockheed Martin in Orlando  (it was rear ended in the parking lot which is partly how I got it after 13 or so years in the garage)

I will be keeping an eye out for someone in the Atlanta or western area of Georgia.

A friend was a contract engineer in Marietta several years ago and he was able to arrange an after hours visit of the C130 assembly line. Very neat and special for us. Our company has supplied the engines for the C130 since day 1.
