My wife had made our round trip tickets from New Orleans to Albuquerque for the family reunion (that said, 40 inlaws was a bit much for me to take) and on the return leg, we got bumped by the airline. Now, she had bought and paid for these tickets 4 months ago! The airline actually tried to bump me (but gave her a boarding pass) and two others. Over booked. So the bidding started. First they offered $300 in travel vouchers and two meals and a later flight. That went to $400, then $500. Then I went up to the little lady at the podium and said if I didn't get back to New Orleans before dark, I would turn into a vampire (meaning I was short on my diabetes meds...well, I kinda exaggerated a bit on the emergency bit). So she really got nervous seeing as how she had to give me a boarding pass. I think when the boarding all finished, someone walked off with a very handsome reward for delaying their flight, upwards close to a grand each.
