Returning from Albuquerque

My wife had made our round trip tickets from New Orleans to Albuquerque for the family reunion (that said, 40 inlaws was a bit much for me to take) and on the return leg, we got bumped by the airline. Now, she had bought and paid for these tickets 4 months ago! The airline actually tried to bump me (but gave her a boarding pass) and two others. Over booked. So the bidding started. First they offered $300 in travel vouchers and two meals and a later flight. That went to $400, then $500. Then I went up to the little lady at the podium and said if I didn't get back to New Orleans before dark, I would turn into a vampire (meaning I was short on my diabetes meds...well, I kinda exaggerated a bit on the emergency bit). So she really got nervous seeing as how she had to give me a boarding pass. I think when the boarding all finished, someone walked off with a very handsome reward for delaying their flight, upwards close to a grand each.

Oh, and Albuquerque was nice, for those of you living in that area. Sorry, but New Mexican food is still Mexican food. The tram ride up into the Sandia mountains was unbelievable.

Nice - our personal record is $2400 for 24 hours delay - paid for a lovely family vacation.

The drive up the east side to the summit is a load of fun too!

Well you should have let some of us folk know you were here, we would have tried to meet you for lunch or dinner or breakfast or coffee or ...

Anyway glad you liked ABQ. I live on the east side of the mountain.

We will be heading to ABQ later this month to visit our son taking advanced training at Kirtland AFB. We don't know if he will still be there or not, but I am looking forward to a nice vacation either way. Has anyone ever gone to the Wild Wolf Sanctuary for the photo safari?
I have done the Sandia Tramway and Tinkertown, El Malpais, the Kelly Brew Pub, the Unser Museum (although I may be stopping in to trade America On Wheels flyers for some of theirs), the Petroglyph area, Old Town, and Santa Fe on previous visits. I know we will return to Old Town and some favorite shops, and our son has suggested The Grove and bRGR for new places to dine. Other suggestions from the regulars are always appreciated.

Hey Basil, I have made that drive up the back side of Sandia and it was fun. Long before the tramway though. In fact, I did it in a rented new '56 Chevy. Oh man, I guess that gives away my age. Actually, I didn't have a drivers license quite yet though. Hope to do it again soon too. Maybe even later this year.

I just got back from my week in ABQ. Sorry Basil, but we were with our son most of the time, so I never got to call you to get together this time, but Mike may be stationed at Kirtland after his time at Kadina AFB ends next year. We enjoyed meals at Rudy's BBQ, Mimi's, O'Niell's, BRGR, LePeep, The Grove, Kelly Brewery, and a few others. We enjoyed an Isotopes win, a visit to the Nuclear Museum, drives to Gallup (some on old 66) and to Los Alamos (550 to 4) but we were sorry that Bandolier was closed when we got there on Monday. I have photos posted on Flickr.

We will be back.
