MGB Restoring an MGB Works Hardtop

Well, I went too....catch is it is on a parts car, thats full of and burried in more parts. I've already got two hardtops, but I want this one for the white MGB for the winter....which means I will have to paint it, or run it for the winter with an orange top. I just don't have time yet to dig it out, and then paint/install it as I've been working like crazy try to get the car on the road before the snow comes. Once the car is on the road I'll probably go get the top and use it.
I am pretty well convinced that this latest MGB was used as a mule for some kinda illegal product at one time in it's life...so there have been a few weird things done to it(that will prevent it from certifying) that are proving diffcult to get repaired in the short time before winter really hits.
 
Looks great, Tony! Had a local Club member that had a '79 or '80 in Vermillion and we always thought that was about the best of the original colors.

Following with interest as I also have a factory hardtop I collected for the C roadster. Will need to restore it when the car gets done, too. Car is a metalic blue and the hardtop is white, which I rather like. Never had a roadster before and have many questions to answer in the future, but here are a few that people might be able to help me with now:

Thanks for the paint code for the interior, but do you have any idea what the original factory white color was on the exterior? Clausager says that the hardtops were only supplied in black or primer after the end of 1966, so it probably would have been dealer painted. At the time the cars were painted Snowberry White (WT.4) although that doesn't mean they used the same on the hardtop, does it?

Seems the environmental regs in this state are making it hard to opperate a plating company and I'm not having much luck finding someone to re-annodize the aluminum. (At least not one with a good recommendation.) Any suggestions?

The metal plated plastic trim in the rear window rubber is turning brown. Any source for this new?

From what I have learned, they were OEW...that's what I'm painting this one anyway.

Thanks Tony. That does look good, especially with the LE air dam!
I think I'll have to think about the exact shade of white when I get to that point. OEW at the time (1968) would be Snowberry White, but I rather like the later Glacier White, like my friend's '74. We'll see.
Got back to Martin MacGregor's web site and finally found all the bits and pieces I'll need. Must have missed them before... Great that he has all the stuff that others (like Moss) can't seem to be bothered with.

Yep, if you're doing one to fit a '68, whatever color white is on the car or that you like...since all '68 hardtops were black originally.
