I know, I would really be getting it just for the outer parts.
I either have, or would obtain the vertical slatted type inner parts and replace the inner area. Unless I put it in Frank and think it looks just right.

Here's what I did today:
(Rustoleum brown spray paint, paint plus plastic: $6.49 - great stuff!!) /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif
(oh, and enough paint left over for touch up spots etc...)

What are some practical ways I can fix up the back end?
Under the tail lights?
I'm going to try bumperettes back there, they look nice on other cars.
 
You need longer spring pan bolts and some spacers. 1/2 inch spacers would lower the front about 1 inch.
 
Anybody have a picture or a diagram?
I guess I just don't get it - sorry.
 
The spring pan is bolted to the bottom of the A-frame. The bottom of the spring sits in this pan. If you space the pan from the A-frame, then the spring sits lower and hence your car sits lower.

What's generally used for "spacers"?
 
Whatever, if you are not dropping it too much, then washers. In your case, you might want to use an over sized nut in conjunction with the washers. Or most hardware stores will have various sized steel spacers.

Paint looks good. I think I would try 1" spacers and 'Put it in the weeds'.
 
leecreek, what does 'Put it in the weeds' mean?
Are you merely referring to lowering it down a bit?

Will this improve handling, or does it make any difference?
 
I'm going to cut off the old mounts with my sawzall.
Then put in the new grille, then put on a pair of bumperettes.
I think it's going to look nice & retro when I'm finished.
Still need to do something about that hood, but I can afford to be patient.
