Rebuilding roadster windshield

Unable to find stainless 6-40 slotted flathead screws so went with cut-down socket heads.

Restored brackets with SS screws. Drilled out (1/16" & #32 drills) and re-tapped some of the screws; removed rust with Evapo-Rust and wire wheel; painted with Krylon Rust Tough rust encapsulating paint.

3/8" L 6-40 SS screws on eBay. Unable to find 1/4" L in SS.

Same screws on Grainger

Tapped a hole in 1/8" thick aluminum angle and used as jig for cutting to correct 1/4" length

just to be clear, i did not cut the seal completely. just what stuck out of the frame after i had all the pieces on and screwed together.

Finished installation.

Showing placement of Grainger adhesive-backed rubber stripping. Glued to angle brackets with contact cement.

Russ Thompson suggested using electrical tape to hold the rubber liner in position. Hole in center of bottom bar channel (not shown) lines up with triangle in triplex logo. Started wrapping at center bottom. Finished with butt joint at center top.

Mitered corner before final trim. I found I needed to miter the rubber all the way from the glass corner. Final trim all around done with a new single-edge razor blade.

Have ordered the Grainger screws - don't like the thick edges on the eBay screws - will follow up with new screws.

These are the only leftovers from the 10 ft length of rubber stripping.

Grainger 6-40 SS flathead screws turned out to be identical to the eBay screws, with original head diameter of .28"; length 3/8". Turned heads down to .24" D, then ground the head face down enough to leave a slight edge on the bevel.
