Does anyone know if it's OK to use CRC Brake Caliper Grease to coat the new seals and pistons? Bentley says use Lockheed Brake Lubricant but I can't find that locally. The CRC stuff says "Don't use on internal piston parts". Thanks
 
Caliper grease is for the pins, NOT the seals and pistons !!!!

"Don't use on internal pistons parts" means excatly that.

All you need to use is brake fluid.
 
Thanks kellysguy...I figured they were serious but sometimes warnings are bogus so I thought I'd ask before I just used brake fluid. What's ADP mean...as if I REALLY want to know :smile:?
 
Took a set of front disc brakes to a local place that does brakes and he charged 30 bucks to rebuild both.

I though ADP meant Automatic Data Processing.

BTW, I notice you "accidentally over post" frequently. Maybe a case of OCD? There is a button labeled "Edit". If you push that button then push the "Delete post" button it may help this disorder of yours. Maybe you just want your status upped to a Yoda.

There is an assembly fluid available that makes pistons slide in easier, but I havent seen it available retail anywhere.

I would go with what he said. :iagree:

I like to abreviate as much as possible. (AMAP)

I know all about the edit button, BELIEVE ME !!!!

I may edit a post 7 or 8 times for spelling, content, layout etc....and that's usually minimum.

Just ask Basil.

Funny thing is, I wind up overposting by trying to edit. I have no idea how. I think I may do it so much, a get ahead of myself and hit reply instead of edit by mistake.

More like ADD than OCD.

Of course you have. It is calles STP and all the better auto stores have it for cheep. heheh.

I did use an assembly lube I think it was this - Permatex® Ultra Disc Brake Caliper Lube - I use DOT 5 and called Permatex and they said it was compatible - certainly no problems later.
 
Oh, sorry wrong pistons. engine pistons STP, brake pistons brake fluid. And don't get the two mixed.
 
Thanks guys. I used brake fluid and they go together OK. Biggest problem has been geting the dust seal retainers in. Hard to do with the double piston!
