Somewhere in the past, somebody posted a photo of how a properly assembled rear brake setup should look...anybody know where that photo is?
 
Try the shop manual.
 
I've got it, Jack - there was just a real neat photo somebody had posted some time back

Oh well, I'm hanging 'em under the '74-1/2 GT the way I always build 'em!

Yep, Doc, that's the thread...as I was building my rear brakes on the table thisw morning, I thought of it & wanted to compare my finished products with the final photo we all agreed was the correct way...but, couldn't find it

Oh well, I put 'em back together just like I've always done - & so far I've not had a brake fail....now, I've got to bleed the darned things!
 
They'll be fine, Tony. I do the bleeding one-handed with an Eezi-Bleed. Makes short work of it.
 
Never used 'em...may have to look into that...I've got my MityVac.
 
Eezi bleed work on clutches too? I usually use my kids. Step on, hold, let off, repeat.
 
So, can I pick them up locally?
 
Steve - something's upside down in your photo...the park brake & wheel cylinder should be on the bottom...is your photo upside down?

Sorry, the axle was off the car and apparently upside-down. Look at the breather on the right. It should be pointing up. I'll rotate the photo and upload so no one is confused in the future.

Wonder what would happen if the upper spring was installed over the shoes instead of under it as shown in your photo? Everytime I install that spring, I have to do so before the shoes are hooked into the adjuster - seems you could instal the spring on the outside of the shoes easier than on the inside....
 
I think it would rub and pull on the brake shoe. I've never tried it but it doesn't seem like a good idea. If you decide to try it then let me know if it works out!

yep, is inside for Bugeyes as well. I also suposed it rubs if wrong way.
 
It'll interfere with the hub and tend to pull against the hold-down studs/springs. When installed properly on the inside it draws the shoes toward the backplate.
