Well, 20 deg. C today (70 F) and I spent my lunch hour washing the rear springs/ axle/ tranny. The rear axle is far and away the dirtiest part of the whole car, the oil/dirt is absolutely caked. Actually there seems to be so much that it dissolved the paint underneath. As I clean it is coming up cast not black.
Anyway, here is my question, since there is no oil anywhere else (and I know LBC's need to mark their territory etc. etc.) Any likely culprits as to where the oil was coming from? It seemed heavier on the vent side - could it be coming from there? I really don't want this kind of drippage when it is going again. It is centred on the pumpkin and extends from the u-joint back. There is also a band on the bottom of the car above- mostly towards the front of the axle.
Any ideas?
