Real Italians go to Olive Garden

I donโ€™t go to many chain restaurants. Sunday my partner and I took her sister and family to Fiore in the North End of Boston. Probably the best pasta and sausage dish we have ever had. Thatโ€™s saying a lot from a Rhode Island guy.

Bringing it back for an update on my end... I spent most of the day prepping ingredients and processing, etc. All fresh stuff, from my garden or my parents, with the exception of oregano and a few other minor spices. All the basil and parsley was fresh though... what a ton of work but the house smells amazing and I ended up with 8 quarts of scratch made Italian style tomato sauce.

Well done! Well worth the effort.

Used to be the maternal side family tradition. Bushels of tomatoes, many dozens of Mason jars. My dad motorized the tomato puree strainer, the whole process became like a production line with everyone having a "workstation." The end product was shared among the six families, enough to last for the year. Dad's dad had orchards, that was always good for canned peaches, pears, plumbs. The "fruit cellar" was always stocked.

I truly miss those times. The food was wonderful, certainly. But the camaraderie of the cohesive family is what made it special.

I love growing tomatoes but I never have enough at any one time to make sauce with. That might be because I tend to eat them as I pick them.

Call it Quality Control, Walt. ;)

That's one of the next things I want to do is fruit jellies and stuff like that.
Should be some good farmers markets in your area, plenty of good stuff to "put up"!

It's all in th' wrist!

Ah ha - apparently the site hosting the image didn't like my VPN IP address. Turned off VPN and viola, there's the image.
