Ray's Garage

A couple weeks ago Jack mentioned my garage progress in a post here on the Spridget Forum; I suggested at that time that I’d post here in a new thread when I had completed a couple final tasks, namely applying the UCoat-IT epoxy floor finish and installing the cabinets. Well, I’m happy to say…IT’S DONE!

The garage project started the second week in January of this year and finished this week…I’m now “moving in”. It is not a large garage, measuring 24’x24’, but it was purpose designed and built. While I primarily had my LBCs in mind, I also wanted it sized to accommodate my full sized pick-up when needed.

Features include an attached compressor room (4’x8’) on the back, a two-post lift, thirteen foot ceiling, epoxy floor, cabinets, heavy duty shelving, a separate power feed, meter and 200 amp breaker box, abundant lighting (15 - 48”, four tube fluorescent fixtures), wall mounted shop vac in the detailing bay, two 8’x10’ roll-up doors, and air conditioning (25,000 BTU).

With the Midget in one bay and the TR3 in the other there’s still room for a couple stools in the sitting area near the fridge…when friends drop by. This fall I’ll be running cable in for TV and Internet connections.

This garage is intended primarily for car storage, routine maintenance, detailing, and hanging out. My existing two car garage, the dirty cluttered one, will continue to be used for heavier reconstruction work including all grinding and welding.

Ray, that's great! I have the perfect place to build a garage like that, I just need to find the $$$. I'm definitely jealous! nice work!

very nice, it makes my garage look like a dungeon you just need another project car in there to break it in.

Like all your work Ray, just first class. A garage to be very proud of.

I looked, but I didn't see the mop bucket.

You WILL need one to clean up your visitors drool.

good job!

In my case a squegee would be better.

MAN CAVE, MAN CAVE. Absolutely wonderful.

Wow!

Looks awsome Ray. We just missed you at The Mitty. We, (Pops and I) were talking to Hap and you were talking to the dude from the Winners Circle. When we were done you had gone. Love the garage. Chris

Thanks for all the comments.

I'm loving the garage. Had both cars on the lift over the last week, the Midget and TR3, to check fluids, tires and suspension. While I won't retire my old creeper just yet, I certainly don't intend to spend a lot of time on it.

Yes, I did consider a Murphy bed to hang on the wall. If I did that I could move Max's (my dog) bed to the garage and lease out the house...make a few bucks on the deal.

Got a big push broom but no mop yet...I have little familiarity with those appliances...and intend to keep it that way! Of course, the LBCs mark their spots so I have a couple of the large (roughly 20"x42") plastic drip trays down and the stray drip is easily handled with some Orange Blaster and a paper towel.

Changed plugs in the Midget yesterday (getting ready of LOTO)...it was 95 outside...70 inside...and YES, I did feel guilty (but I got over it...quick)!

I'm sure as time goes by I'll wish I had done this or that differently, but so far, if I had it to do over again I'd pretty much do the same.
