why

After 32 years of ownership '65 3000, '67EType and at least the last ten of trying to stop leak from radiator spigot including lapping the valve seat, and buying a new one that also leaked, a small cork bought at Ace hardware jammed into opening got it down to 2 drops an overnight. So finally decided to launch all-out war with plans to seal with solder, expoxy weld stuff etc, ended up with a stainless steel, fine thread, 1/2" dia, 1/2 inch long bolt from Ace hardware (small Ace store did not have but big store 4 mi up PCH did [tried six others home depot, PEP Boys etc.no luck]), also a plumbing dept washer, whitish plastic-like (used before and works fine). NO DROPS either car, no newspaper on garage floor at front, Jay

Nice fix! Except,...Now how will you know when the radiator is empty? :thirsty:

Humor, you know the old joke about how you can tell when your British car has run out of oil? Answer: When it has stopped leaking. Just having some fun. I am fond of the original radiator petcock's look. The stylish heater valve on the engine is my favorite.

I get it - we need it to leak so we know when it's empty. :glee:

They tried Lucas warning lights on the dash, but those burned out before the radiator emptied.

--------Keoke

Just a heads up, but the threads on the petcock/spigot are British Standard Pipe. To be specific, they are 1/4''-19 BSPP. Anyone looking for a drain plug, in stainless, they are available from British Tool and Fasteners. I have also purchased a similar item in brass from Ebay seller "bsanut".
Both items were very good quality.
