Janel - I'm lost again....are you having fuel problems again (after new carbs) or just trying to fix a DPO?

See, I knew if I left this thread alone sooner or later it would get back on track!
 
No, there was some issue with gas spewing out that brass nipple thing on the rear carb, noticed it Sunday after I drove her an hour or so and there was 'smoke' aka vaporized gas? in the engine bay.

And yes, we're fixing the DPO issue with a different fuel pump (not the 9# one!!) and removing the regulator. FINALLY. Took a garage full of men drinking beer last night to convince him of it. I suppose I should have popped a brew, belched and scratched my crotch - he'd have gotten the point when I was trying to tell him then.

Gas shouldn't be dumping out thet "brass nipple thing" & if it is, you shouldn't pour it back into your charcoal cannisters! Its pouring out because there's too much getting into the carb because of your DPO isue...putting gas into the charcoal cannister will clog it up & then you'll have to open it & replace the charcoal
 
Oops. I thought that was what that charcoal canister is for? I did print out an article by Gerry Masterson on rebuilding that canister - just in case!
 
Janel, I think you may have been confused from a post over on the MGBE in regards to this. It was mentioned that the Carbs. were vented to the charcoal canister, but I think that was on the HIF setup or somthing. I can't remember off hand.
I was trying to figure it out too.

They took the float apart last night, not sure what they did to it though. I was half asleep when Chuck came home, and completely asleep when he left for work at 4:30 this morning!

I was just going to run the hoses down, and let them hang, but the tree-hugging lefty in me wasn't crazy about dumping the gas...if there IS any. And there shouldn't be, once we switch out fuel pumps and ditch the regulator.
 
running it to the charcoal canister is the correct thing to do. However, the canister isn't meant to catch liquid fuel. It's meant to scrub fuel vapors. If you have any liquid fuel making it into the canister you'll have to rebuild it to unclog the system.

Just venting fuel vapor to the atmosphere is just as bad as dumping liquid fuel on the asphault. I reckon a charcoal canister inspection/rebuild will be in order after the fuel delivery system has been de-DPO'ed. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

The one I'm sending is an original 1977 piece I think. If not, I know it's more than 10 years old. It was the only part that kept the engine from running when I got it!
