How do you know when your tranny has 2.7 US pts in it? I do understand that is well over a quart, like a quart and a bit.

But you can never get it empty when draining it.

If you are filling through the proper hole in the side then it will flow out when you have put too much in, no matter how much was in there when you started you won't exceed 2.7 pints.
Bill

And that is what I thought as well, wonder why that did not work.

Jack- I still am not completely convinced that it is time for you to put the engine back in the car yet. How possible would it be to rig it up on the floor and run it for 15 or 30 seconds (noisy true but maybe worth it). Then you could maybe see the oil if it is from the engine. The engine can easily run for 30 seconds without a radiator if you plugup the oil pressure port.
Bill

yep sure can run a bit on the floor. No question about it.

The scroll was dry including all around that area. Not a drop.

Now the inside of the tranny housing, bell housing, was another matter. Even the rear of the flywheel was clean.

Even to see something as unrealistic and impossible as a pinhole in the oilpump can squirting back towards the transmission I would run it on the floor before putting it back in. I hate pulling engines more that I have to.

Jack

Can you post some pictures of your engine? A picture is worth a thousand words before you stuff it back into the car.

Cheers

Mark

Shucks, is all cleaned up now. Ready to assimble, and yes the clutch fork was in correctly.

Oil pump can is behind the flywheel.

As both the dust cover and the clutch slave cover where soggy with oil and the clutch slave its self, running from the lever hole, it just has to be an over fill somehow. However, I had no problems before, this just happened on this engine rebuild and reinstall.

Quite frankly if it was not the tranny I am at a complete loss and will run the engine out of the car, but I will put some dye in the engine first just to make sure.

Jack
That little 1/2 moon piece on the back of the rear main cap.
If that is not PERFECTLY straight across and flat with the block/main cap, it's gonna leak bad. Take a good hard look at that little piece. The are semi adjustable with the bolts.

Will look again Frank, thanks. Better to look now rather than wonder later. In fact think I will pull it tomorrow and put in a new gasket and make darn sure it it tight against the rear main cap.

Maybe a dumb question, Jack, but does your driveway have an incline? The tranny may not be over-full and still leak with a bad seal if you are parked nose-down on an incline!!

This was in the garage as well.
