Question regarding eBay photos

In the (recent) past I have downloaded photos in eBay adds by right clicking on them and "save image as", like the first photo below.

I tried to do this again this morning and I did not get the expected options and I can't access the photo. See second photo.
The copy function does not work!

Does anyone know if eBay done this on purpose? Is these a "work around"?

It appears they have introduced some sort of Javascript setup. I've been doing the same thing and have had the same problems of late. Sometimes I've been able to dig well into source code and find "xxx.jpg" links, but it's very, very tedious and not always successful.

It is annoying, as I also have downloaded hundreds of car-related photos for my own reference. :frown:
 
They may have had some copyright infringement complaints. I could see why they've switched: scammer uses pix from another ad, gets some fish to bite and pay a "holding" fee... can't blame 'em at E-Bay, really.

If ya right-click on the file and select "Rename", you may be able to add the extension: ".jpg", save it and have the viewer recognise it, Don.
 
Just a WAG, but I'd say the new script was intended to "improve the user experience" and breaking "Save Image As" was a side-effect.

Probably varies by auction, and by which browser you use. But with FireFox 3.0 (yeah, I'm behind the times), I find that I can right-click on the 'enlarge' button and choose "Save Page As". The .JPG file will wind up in the subdirectory under the directory where you save the page.
 
depending on what browser you use, you may be able to do several different things.
I have something in my firefox that allows me to grab the screen. I download some picture or grab tool that allows that. I just don't know what one. There is also tools that allow you to magnify over anything on the screen. This may help as well. The other thing I do some times is save the page to the computer and then the images come with it. Lots of ways to skin the cat if you want to get around it.
 
Here is a work-around.
If using Firefox you can first use the Ctrl-Shift-+ to increase the size of the pic. Then use the Print Screen button and then open Paint and paste into a new blank image. Then you can select the photo and cut and paste it into a new blank image and save it however you wish. Sounds complicated but not so hard to do.
 
I get the same problem with Firefox also. It seems it may be only an issue with the new default layout that eBay is using for Auto auctions.

I tried right clicking on an image with the new default layout using IExplorer and I get all of the save & copy images selections in the Pop up menu.

I also tried right clicking on an image using Firefox with another auction that didn't use the new default layout and I get all off the copy & save image selections in the pop up menu.

It looks like it browser dependent. The first picture is using Firefox 3.5.3 and there's no save option

This picture is using the Firefox IE Tab extension and allows the Save Picture As

This last one is using IE 8.0 and it also allows it

There's also image capturing programs out there such as Snag-it, Fireshot and Aviary.
 
or you could just hit the print-screen button on your keyboard then paste it into Paint or some other photo editing program, then crop as needed and save as .jpg, .gif, etc.

Guys, I tried this and yes it worked, but these photos are tiny, like 48x64 pixels. Am i doing something wrong?

Yes, you're doing what I wrote instead of what I meant :laugh:

Left-click on the thumbnail of the photo you want, then on the button that says "Enlarge", which should open a new window with a full-size image. Then right-click inside that window, and choose "Save Page As". Apparently you have to close that window and repeat the process from the main window for each photo.

I tried a couple of the FireFox plug-ins that are supposed to make this sort of thing easier, but couldn't get them to work for me. Possibly I just didn't get them configured right.
 
I dont know if its ebay or firefox (both seem to update themselves every 2 days) But when you click "enlarge" it doesnt open up a new window, it sends you straight to the bottom of the page where a larger photo is located. Kinda like how it used to be. I cant get any of the suggested way to work for me, and I think downloading a program is too evolved when you can just print screen.

I ended up saving the auction as a whole, which created a folder full of elements, including all the pics I wanted. This was actually better, as I had planned on saving as much from the auction as possible as this was the auction for the car I bought (even though it didnt make reserve)
