I believe the haynes manual has a method for measuring acceptable wear limits. However, I've known that the pumps in my engines weren't too new, so I just changed them without measuring them.

My Bentley manual says the clearance between the outside diameter of the rotor and the pump body should be less than 0.010”, the distance between the rotor lobes should be less than 0.060”, and the clearance between the rotor and the cover should be less than 0.005”. Matt is right, they’re cheap, just replace it now. It’s a pain to do later.
