Just full of it arn't I.

Oil pumps. Yea I know they are cheep, but how do you tell a good one from bad out of the engine.

It looks bright and shiney and a bit of wear on the split for the pin attachment but really looks quite like a new one.

I believe the haynes manual has a method for measuring acceptable wear limits. However, I've known that the pumps in my engines weren't too new, so I just changed them without measuring them.

My Bentley manual says the clearance between the outside diameter of the rotor and the pump body should be less than 0.010”, the distance between the rotor lobes should be less than 0.060”, and the clearance between the rotor and the cover should be less than 0.005”. Matt is right, they’re cheap, just replace it now. It’s a pain to do later.

Yep, agree on the pain, been there done that not fun at all.

Note to self: Leave new oil pump on list.
